When i start it on a cold morning, it will die right away unless i keep the rpms uparound 2000rpm, it will not idle. The only way I have found to stop it to turn the key to on and wait about 45 seconds and then start it. It has progressivley gotten worse. When it started it only did it when it was very cold, now it's doing it aroud 40 degrees. What could this be? My only guess right now is the IAC or the fuel system.

Check your fuel pressure. You could have a bad regulator, or fuel pump. I have a 1994 XL and a few years back ours did a very similar thing except it would run for 2 seconds and die... period. Ended up being the fuel pump. Your fuel pressure at idle should be around 35 psi, +/- 5 psi, and you check it at the schrader valve on the fuel rail, it will be to the left of your intake a little forward of your ignition coil. The regulator is a bit forward of that. Check your pressure and let me know.

Regarding my post... I've heard it from many technicians I know that the 1st and 2nd gen Explorer fuel pumps are notorious for going, regardless of model.

Does the CEL come on? Try pulling codes and see if you get any. Otherwise I'd check IAC, fuel pressure regulator, DPFE/EGR

No codes at all, I'm confused because it runs fine if I give it enough gas and it runs fine if it's warm out, I'll have to mess with the iac.

Fuel pressure?
