Ford Explorer XLT 1997
Hello,

I own a ford explorer xlt 1997, 2 wheel drive, v6 (not sure if I should post some other details). I am having trouble with the dipstick. Correct amount of oil is in the engine, but the dipstick always returns clean. There is a serial number on the dipstick: F57E-6750-EB. A quick google search shows this is for a 1995 ford explorer sport, which leads me to believe that this is the wrong dipstick. The question is, where can I find the correct or a compatible dipstick?

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum.

dealer item, but good luck there.

Id say an auto wrecker is your best chance.

There are two different 4.0 engines in the Explorers, an Overhead Valve or OHV that has pushrods activating the valves, and an Overhead Cam or OHV that has a camshaft in each head. These were both available for some years.

Make sure you know which engine type you have and what the oil capacity for that engine. If that is the same as what you have put in then you probably have a dipstick from the other type.

Best of luck :)
