Hi,
Can anyone tell me what year and style automatic transmissions fit my 95 Explorer? And what are the differences between the 4R44E, 4R55E, 5R44E, 5R55E and how can I tell the apart visually and do these transmissions share any common parts?
Thanks in advance

The 95, and 96 4.0 use the 4R55E. The 3.0 in the Ranger uses the 4R44E. The difference is that they have either a 440 Ft/Lb range or a 550 Ft/Lb range. The 5R44E is the 5 speed version of the 4R44E just like the 5R55E is the 5 speed version of the 4R55E. The 5th gear is virtual (computer controlled). Some years like the 97, and 2001 have extra external sensors. I have more information on these sensors in # 7 of my list of useful threads.
