  • Hi there! I see you are very experienced with the 4.0L motor. I have a 2004 explorer with the 4.0L engine. I had a mechanic bail on me once he replaced the timing chains, and I believe the motor is not timed correctly. I will be starting the job tomorrow. I would appreciate it if I could bounce some questions off you once i get started.
Does the engine have to be removed to replace the passenger side timing chain ? And is the repair the same on a 2009 Mazda B4000 v6 4l 4x4 as the post you made for the ford sohc v6 4l ? If it is are you available to email me the repair Procedure Please..grieve_bill@hotmail.ca. No .on the end and yes .ca ..Thanks for any help
I put a compression tester in one of the plugs on the passenger side and it has 0 compression the needle doesn’t move at all but in the drivers side it has 180 psi compression..In my mine that’s telling me the timing chain is snapped so the values aren’t closing at all ..
Hey StreetRod thanks for everything you do on this form ..I have a 2009 Mazda B4000 v6 4l I bought it with the timing chain messed up in the passenger (So I was told from a ford mechanic)
SreeetRod2000 - thanks for all of your great writeups. Reading the EGR/DPFE one today. I have a MY2000 EX 4dr auto. Think MY01 SportTrac JOB1 up to JUL24 2000 more parts are interchangeable, and JOB2 ST have many common parts also, & I am hoping the 2nd
sets of CATS are the same as SportTrac MY 01-05... You having a MY00 EX helps !
00 EX SOHC 4dr.CATS look 2b MY01. 01-5 Sport Trac Y Cats applyto 00 EX, appears my 2nd set of CATS same as 01-05 ST. IIRC EX went to 2.25" Y pipe at EXH MAN MY 02 but ST stayed at 2". Bought 01 ST 2nd set of CATS , hope OAL & intake flange type/orient same asmy 00 EX. Bosal says 2nd set CATS 00 EX is 079-4138. O2 bung wrongplace EX MY 01 is Bosal 079-4172. This 1 looks right for my MY00, w/O2 bung in correct spot.
I just read the forum where you posted pics of your exhaust with the cats pictured. What brand and where can I get those? Do they come off the stock P head exhaust manifolds or headers. Paul
This was diagnosed by the dealer with code P0660 (IMTV circuit malfunction) and P2071 (IMTV Stuck closed). Thanks in advance! my email is kman3786@gmail.com phone 2169564900 -Gino
I am at a loss before tearing into it whether ill be able to repair with a replacement, due to missing linkage. Do you have any advice or diagrams how to remove upper intake and service? Can't believe how many specific parts are discontinued, without a trace of aftermarket.
Hi Rod, I am struggling to find info or diagrams how to remove upper intake to service the dreaded IMTV Intake Manifold Tuning Valve. I have found a used one, as they dont make them anymore. Wondering how common it is for the "dog leg" linkage piece to be missing when I go to remove or service it. The replacement just has the 4 inch rod with bad plastic joints.
Hey 2000StreetRod: I just went thru your thread on disassembly of all chains and tensioners in an 02 Explorer 4.0 V6. Awesome, super helpful thread. Can you send me the reassembly instructions? I feel like I could just do your disassembly in reverse, but prolly best to have a guide. Thanx in advance: ken@blakelys.us
Hey buddy, I was reading a post about power adders ( heads) on the sport trac, and you mentioned the Greenville dragstrip. Where about do you live? I just got my 01 ST, I live in Chesnee. Do they have any meets or the like ariund here? I had a miata before this an did the whole supercharged-E85 injected thing before a drunk driver hit me head on. Anyhow my name is Chris Siebenthall, talk with ya later!
My husband just replaced the timing chains, tensioner, and cassettes, He finished it yesterday, when he went to crank the truck up, it Ran well, the first initial crank up. But then later after it warmed up, it proceeded to rattle. From what we could hear, sounds like it’s cominh from the front left chain. Do you have any ideas as to what could cause this? Please help me!
    Thank you so much! :)
Hey street rod how's it going I'm looking at your coolant reservoir modification on your M90 install page and I'm wondering where you got the fitting that attaches to the coolant reservoir
I'm replacing a 2002 4.0L SOHC with a good engine. I've seen/read a lot of posts about failed harmonic balancers.

RockAuto has an oem ford updated harmonic balancer, Ford. P/N: 8L2Z-6B321-C, for about $100 delivered. What do you think? Install new at that cost or roll dice with the 116k unit, which seemed to wobble a little but not too much (and no squeel) on the replacement engine before I started taking it apart"
Hey I'm wondering if you ever finished up the throttle cable bracket and hookup for your m90 install post. I'm building a similar Intake assembly to yours
Need some help how do I insert pics. or img. Other forums that I belonged to copy and past worked. Can't figure this one out. Thanks Rich
