Body Work & Detailing

Waxing washing, wheel cleaning and body work. This is the place to discuss those topics.
I purchased a set of in channel rain guards fro my 2012 explorer, not sure of the brand but there the ones that just snap in. I put the drivers side on in and the window stopped and went down after it hit the rain guard a few times but did eventually go up. My question is does this harm the window and the surrounding weather stripping, I like the look but not at the expense of breaking the window or having a problem with a water leak down the road. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm looking for a replacement side view mirror. I have a 2016 sport with blind spot. I found some parts online but I wasn't sure which is the one I need. http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/PartDetail.aspx?n=CEqoLAkSYcRYmWJG%2ffQcKA%3d%3d&id=388512061&m=2&search=true&year=2016&make=Ford&model=Explorer http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/PartDetail.aspx?n=wT04KXzNIoNACFP7OpGc2Q%3d%3d&id=388409687&m=2&search=true&year=2016&make=Ford&model=Explorer http://parts.autonationfordwhitebearlake.com/ford/explorer/gb5z17682eaptm/2016-year/sport-trim/3-5l-v6-gas-engine/electrical-cat/mirrors-scat/?part_name=mirror-outside&position=right...
I was testing a sticker magnet on the hood of my Explorer, and it wouldn't stay. Humph. But on the back deck, where it will reside, it sticks fine. Whoa. Question: why are the front fenders and hood non-ferrous (apparently). Are they plastic or SS? Is it magic? One issue is, I bought this last month from my sister, who submitted an insurance claim because of hail damage, primarily to the hood. The Insurance company totaled the car. And gave her a check. She gifted the car to me, with a consideration cost. So the hood is dented in a hailstorm sort of pattern, but it doesn't attract a magnet. Plus, Are the front fenders plastic??? Weird. I drove a 96 Exployer for 8 years, wore it out and sold it. This model feels bigger for some...
Hey peeps, New to the forum, but I've got a 2002 Fiord Explorer Sport 4WD with 148,000 miles and a MULTITUDE of issues, and I'd like to see if any of you guys know what dealing I'll with, in terms of time, if it can be repaired at home, and what costs I'm looking at. But first, some back story. I was driving the road a month or two ago, when a car just a bit in front and to the left of me cut me off. I proceeded to into the lane they were previously in, when they decided to cut me off again! Needless to say, I didn't want to be near them (erratic drivers in Phoenix are never up to any good), and stitches back into the lane I was in. However, a previously unseen Expedition came out from a gas station exit about 500 ft ahead on the...
Recently I've noticed that my car door dosent sit flush when shut on my 97 Ford explorer. That is, the door, when shut, is a good 1/4 inch depressed from the rear door. The top and bottom lines up, and the sticker lines up and it latches, so it's not sagging. If you were to run your hand along the side of the car, you would feel a bump up from the drivers door panel to the rear door panel. Hopefully I've explained it well enough. How do I align the door? It's needs to be further out when it closes. Thanks, I await your replies
Hello! Hopefully this is the correct forum for this thread. So my issue is that both the rear hatch handle and the keyhole "button" for the hatch window have both separated from the hatch, itself. The handle looks like it must have some odd kind of bolts made to clip into u-shaped cutouts on the hatch. There's very little space for bolts or nuts, so I'm guessing they're specialized, and they seem to be all that I need, but I can not for the life of me find them anywhere. I may be using incorrect terminology in my searches. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your time!
Looking for some help on repairing the quarters. The rockers i was planning to use counter sunk rivets with slip on rockers then use body putty to blend them in. I took the flares off. Id rather not have them but this is what was underneath. Ignore the bent portion that was from a wheel falling off before i owned it. Should i buy front fenders, cut out the wheel arch, and french them in? Nobody makes quarters for a 2 door.
HI, We just purchased a low mileage 2015 Ford Explorer a few weeks ago. we decided to take it on a trip to Florida for our first long road trip. We noticed a few things after spending many hours driving but on the road on the way I ran over something on the road with the right front tire. I think it was actually a pavement reflector that came loose. I it shot up and hit the rear fender flare - rear right fender flare - the black plastic thing around the wheel well. It tore a hole in it along with scratches. I think I can replace this myself. Has anyone ever replaced one? It looks like a few screws. I tried to find the part but when I look all I see are front fender flares. It looks like the left front might be the...
i picked up a 2015 pre-owned , metallic black explorer recently. I recently dropped back off at dealership for some free scratch removal, buff and wax they offered with the purchase. I have the vehicle back, and at a distance, it has a nice shine to it, but up close something is wrong. On the windows and body there is dark specs/spots all over it. There was a light rain in the way home, so not sure if the water did it or if they didnt completely wipe in the polish.Tiny dark specs all over it. Any thoughts? Is this just wax that needs to be rubbed in better? Im worried about permanent damage. Im not talking about the acid rain spots/stains, Im used to that already, these spots are much smaller.
I have a 2009 ford explorer eddie bauer. When driving into a strong wind at highway speed, i get a loud buzzing, whistle, or humming sound. I traced it to the front of my hood to the chrome grill valence extension on to the hood. I replace said chrome piece but still have the whistle. I know it is this piece because before i replaced the piece i put a piece of cloth wedged behind it and the noise stopped. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so how did you fix it? There is a black piece of plastic between that piece and the hood that may be the cause and may just need to be sealed to the chrome piece.
