1991 explorer 4x4 build Hi my name is Mike and I have been watching this site for a while and now that I have started my explorer project I figured I would post it here. I started out with a stock 91 explorer 4.0 auto 4x4. I picked it up in good running condition for $1000. Since this is not my DD I am taking my time making it a little more offroad worthy. My plans for this explorer are to use it as a weekend camping vehicle that will see mostly desert trails and mountain roads. With that in mind I am more focused on durability than rock crawl capability. I already have a large amount of parts sitting in the garage and am starting to build this thing. Any ideas or problems you see with what I am doing let me know.I am going to work...
Just bought on 12/31/08 1994 Ford explorer eddie bauer 4.0 ohv 111,413k miles bought for $1500. It needs a good cleaning, new tires w/ alignment, a good sub and speakers (hitting up walmart tomorrow, my brother doesnt care about the OEM stuff but i cant stand it) eventually new shocks, and some odds and ends interior/exterior bits just to make it nicer overall. It needs a good buffing for sure i have no doubt at one point someone keyed this truck, but it isnt thru the paint atleast. Anyways heres pictures before i started cleaning anything. Here is the absolutely retarded "subwoofer" basically the stock cone is blown (I tested it, it just vibrates and pulsates terribly) and this one anything past volume 3 just garbles...

This is my second 2nd Gen Explorer. I bought it on July 2nd of this year and was FINALLY glad to find one with a V8. Found it on Craigslist for $1650 with 233K Miles. It had some cosmetic damage and needed tires badly. It also has an aftermarket sunroof which needs to fixed. I can hear the motor working fine but it's not moving. Interior was in good shape for the most part just needed minor things but here it is. The day I got it home with my Explorer
Hello my name is Jake, im from San Diego and I own a 1997 Explorer 5.0 that has gone through a lot of changes to become what it is now. There's so much custom work on here that I've done...It's gonna take a few posts. When I got the exploder it was bone stock with no speakers or stereo and had a "bad transmission". It was free though, had a v8, 130k and was Awd so it came home with me. I deep cleaned it for about a month because the interior was a bit of a wreck The transmission problem turned out to be a transfercase leak and with the 4r70w having an open passageway to the awd tcase it was becoming low and loosing the ability to shift...or the something like that. All I know is a bw4406 swap and 5 quarts of atf solved the problem...
1997 XLT, finally not stock anymore! Here's the latest addition to our Ford driveway. Its purpose is to haul the baby (anywhere) and eventually I'm going to use it to tow my Mustang around to the closest 1/4 mile tracks. It's a '97 XLT with 118K miles, leather, 5.0L, and AWD, CD changer, sunroof, etc. The very first mod is going to be window tint--I HATE non-tinted WINDOWS! The next round of mods will be 32s, Eagle 589s, TT, shackles, AAL, and possibly a 3" body kit are coming by mid-January. (and maybe hacking away some fender material! hahaha) I'm also planning on an O/R exhaust with Magnaflows, an E303 cam, 1.6RRs, and 4.56 gears. These are coming as funds are available. :D Here's the pics!
Hello there, I have been a long time follower here on Serious Explorations. This site has helped me out countless times with my explorer. I don't usually post much, but now that I am starting a project I would love to share it with everyone. Over the next year or so i'll posting my progress with the Merc (Red Dragon). Stats on the Merc: 1998 AWD 5.0 V8, everything is stock .....for now! Plans for the Merc: SAS SOA BW 4406 t-case swap dana 44 front stock 8.8 rear-with adapters for now, planning on doing an ultimate 8.8 kit in the future (scrapped my rear dana 44 idea with some thanks to fellow members) front off road bumper...

Well Im now Elite, I don't know how, I think it was a gift so thanks for my eliteness :salute:, on to my registry. If you haven't seen seen my Before and After thread go here to check it out. Basically the ZAPV started life out like any other car. It was tax season and we needed a car. My wife and I found this X for $4000 cash, its a 2000 XLS and had about 100k on it. Once we bought it I started cleaning it up and painting some of the trim and such. I kept it nice and clean (waxing and washing regularly). My wife and I are big zombie movie fans so I tossed out the idea of putting a sticker on the rear window that said "Zombie Assault Preparedness Vehicle". It was my wife that said if Im going to make a zombie vehicle I should...

New Explorer to add to the garage: Specs: 4.0 SOHC 5r55e 2WD 3.73 gears Graphite Leather Sunroof 266k miles Audiophile Sound Engine apparently has been replaced as well as the transmission. I picked it up for a song with a working SOHC with no "Death Rattle" and a leaking transmission line. Also all the electronics work, minus the overhead console, and as a cool bonus, the A/C works!! (pun intended) The bad: 3 different brands of tires Ball Joints and Tie Rods Shot Body Mount Bushings Shot Interior Needs Work This is the poorly patched transmission line that initiated the sale. Looks like they used some very thin rubber tubing and it just split, dumping the ATF. :wtf: I replaced with 100psi oil tubing and two hose clamps...
Today I took possession of what is probably my last project vehicle - a 2003 Explorer Centennial with a 4.6L SOHC V8, 5R55S automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. The following threads are related to this vehicle: Next project vehicle? DOHC 4.6L V8 build Motorized pre-oiler 4.6L DOHC head cooling and crossover delete mods 2003 Centennial 4.6L Engine Removal ATF to Fluid Cooler for my 2003 Centennial There were only 4,000 of these Explorers manufactured and they all were identical inside and out. They have black exteriors to match the only color available on the Ford Model T. There is a badge on each side and rear to identify the anniversary model. The Centennial is basically a more expensive Limited with some unique interior and...
