This is a variation from the very good and informative post Interior Dome Light LED Conversion (PICs) by MustangP51. His post didn't really detail much on wiring and provide a ton of detail on the backseat and cargo lighting and also went the much cooler and more complex method of building his own LED boards :D I went with the lazy man 10-LED disc boards that work out of the box and cost about $6 each (when you buy 5 at a time on eBay from ledwholesalers. Ooo, and I did mine in red, lol. I have this all in my build thread but figured I would post here. List of supplies for all 3 sections (with links) * Hot glue gun & glue sticks * Solder iron & solder * Wire * 5 G4-base10-LED discs (red, white, or warm white, can be found from site...
Hey all, What does everyone think of LED headlamps? I've always loved LEDs and the technology is taking off lately. They require a ballast like HIDs, but I think they would work better in reflector housings, since they seem to focus their light a bit better. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-72w-6400lm-Car-LED-Headlight-Kit-9004-9007-H-L-Cree-Conversion-Lamps-Bulbs-/181557973578?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a45b2d24a&vxp=mtr Anyone try them yet? I would, but for $100, I rather wait until they drop in price a bit. HID kits go for $50 now.
Success story, I just did the LED Upgrade in my 07 sport trac's cluster. With the white face gauges plus 1 blown and weak bulbs inside it was only readable in absolute darkness. Driving around sunset, it was impossible to read. I wish I'd taken before photos but here's how it's looking on the brightest setting. There are no hotspots and it is very readable in any type of light where backlighting is necessary. With the dimmer, they work as intended. The dimmest setting with these LEDs is as bright as my OEM bulbs. There are plenty of guides and videos that tell you how to take your gauge cluster out to remove the bulbs. I used the part B8.4D-NWHP from superbrightleds.com. They fit in the cluster but are a bit loose. You have...
Hi all, Just picked up a 2004 ST for my son and we upgraded the fog and headlights to LED's. Now when you turn on the fogs it activates the highbeams. If you switch back to low beam, the fogs go out. But you can have the low beams on without the fog lights switch pulled, as soon as you pull it though they go to high beam and you get a faint light in the high beams indicator. Would the Bambi mod fix this? All worked perfect until with added the headlight leds. I've used these brand leds on several vehicles with no issues prior Any help is appreciated!
Not much room for additional switches in the first generation Explorers, so after putting in a roll cage added a small piece of diamond plate to hold a switch or two. . . Here's a look: With the explosion of cheaper-priced LEDs with lower amperage draws, decided to add a few to the rig, but didn't like the idea of multiple unnamed switches of assorted sizes and colors. So here's my solution: Haven't wired them all in yet, but ran "power" to all the switches on ignition so the lower writing on the switch is illuminated once the vehicle is keyed, when switched "on", the diagram also illuminates. . . The two "pods" in the upper corners of the pictures are the two interior lights used to supplement the light in the cabin...
I recently posted in the 1st gen forum but thought I may have better luck here. I purchased poison spyder's three wire 3/4" led that have a 50% power (indicator/parking light) wire, 100% power for turn signal wire, and a ground wire. I cut the wires to the 3157 bulb in my parking/turn signal lights on my 94 Navajo and wired them into the respected wires on the LED and changed the flasher and only the turn signal works. If I disconnect the turn signal it will work as an indicator but as soon as the turn signal is connected the indicator feature will not work. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks
What is the general consensus for brighter 7440 reverse bulbs for a Gen 5 Explorer? I have a 2013 PIU. I do not need or demand LED, just something actually brighter that helps me SEE when backing up, not just look cool. I'm not interested in putting in aircraft landing lights, just changing the bulbs in the existing fixtures. There are so many to choose from, but seeing is believing. Thanks in advance!
