Body Work & Detailing

Waxing washing, wheel cleaning and body work. This is the place to discuss those topics.
I swear this place has let me down every single time I have ever gone in for anything related to a car. Does matter the make or model they dont have the part. So i figured today I would break my steak I wanted to get a clay bar, because I have notice like pin dot things of rest. And also just to see how it works and if it would do anything for my white paint. Go in there expecting to find something, or atleast a kit with it... Nope. So being disappointed I wanted to ask if they stocked it just in case they sold out. Because I would think that this product isnt sold that often to keeping a short supply may be common. Go up to speak to the 1 and only person in the place that I can see and asked him. He said hes never heard of a...
I've been picking a lot of things up from the Ranger Forum lately, and this one takes the cake. This is a VERY simple way to change the background color of your Ford Emblem, it doesn't have to be blue! All it takes is some sand paper, paint, and some clear coat. Here are the steps: Step 1 - You will need to get the actual blue center part of the emblem out of the chrome casing that's around it. To do this, use a hair dryer or heat gun and spend about 5 minutes heating both sides of the emblem. The center part is held on with some apoxy. Once it is heated good, use something flat (such as a knife or small screwdriver) and pry the center part out. Step 2 - Once you have the center part out, sand the back until all of the...
I just did the three step Meguiars (1. Clean, 2. polish, 3. carnauba wax) It looks pretty good but I hear its not that long lasting. I dont HAVE to have the xtreme shine I really just NEED wax on there that will protect it for a year since I am in college. If I buy the zaino and put it all will the MANY HOURS I spent on this 3 step Meguair's be waisted? Should I just go buy the turtle wax that claims 1 wax a year and put it over this? I go to school at texas a&m (near houston) and it is hot and high uv rays. Also will have to park outside all day. Im not going to have any time or place to wax my car at all so I want to get a solid wax on there before I leave to last me until next summer. Am I alright with this...
So I bought this truck with the intention of using it for parts for my 97, but I decided that it was worth saving despite the miles (303K). I have been restoring/detailing some of the worst neglected vehicles you have probably ever seen for a few years now. A full cosmetic restoration usually takes me a week or two depending on several factors but besides the cosmetics I also fix all the little mechanicals that others ignore (Like door locks, dash lights, stereo system issues, etc.) So without further delay, here are the pictures of what I started with and what Ive done so far... _________________________________ this is where I found her, as I found her. I'm the 3rd owner of this mounty and unfortunately the first two were not exactly passionate about cars and left it unprotected and unmaintained. all it got was the weekly scratch and swirl making car wash. Left under the sun for more than 10 years, the black trims faded and the paint was cracked up and in very bad condition specially on the hood. So, i'm trying to bring her back to shape one inch at a time with the most inexpensive methods that i know. Here's what i did with all that faded trim: I bought a couple of rattle cans of dupli-color trim paint and 1 rattle can of dupli-color truck bed lining. i took out the wiper cowl, masked the rear hatch handle, took out the rear hatch glass handle, masked of the keypad entry...
My dad was involved in a accident last month in his 1992 Mazda Navajo. He walked away from the accident with out a scratch, though his poor Navajo did not fair as well.. Keep in mind this Navajo would be totaled. The value a body shop would charge to do this repair would be in the $1000s. I've estimated this to be about $800-$900 for me to repair. So my good friend Justin, towed the Navajo to me in Austin, tx where I will do all the body work and put this Navajo back to like new condition. There was steering damage, and core support damage/passenger side inner fender damage. Lucky for me I found this at the local wrench a part. came home with all this... And here we are as of now...
ok i got this off of a ford probe site but it should be very similar for the explorers Here's how it's done. 1) Warm the Emblem with a hairdryer for about 2 minutes. Turn it over and carefully pry around the perimeter with a thin flat object. Now you'll have the front (painted) part (piece 1) and rear seal (piece 2) seperated. Set piece 2 aside where it won't get dirty, the adhesive on it is enough to reseal the finished emblem. CAUTION: if you don't warm the emblem enough before prying, you will crack the clear portion! 2) In order to change the color you must remove the stock color. On the front of piece 1 you'll notice the silver "FORD" is raised on a blue background. When you flip it over the "FORD" is inset and the...
Well, I went and did it. I will also be adding a canvas bed cover and canvas rear window with clear vinyl to match the canvas windows I have on the front and rear doors. Much more to come but I thought I would show you the progress pics. Lots of tubing is also coming :) *And here is a photoshop picture of what I am having made for the rear of the explorer. I will not have the tailgate on as shown in the photoshop picture. Let me know what you think.
Ive been watning to do the explorer swap on my ranger even before i started building my ranger a few years ago, im not sure why i never did it but this week I covinced myself that if i want it done i jsut got to do it.. so i fiqured why not make a thread on the swap cause im sure some people would be interested in seeing it done. Keep in mind the truck has probably only been painted this way for less that four months now:eek: Started with a a realtively stock ranger front end, diamond corners and headlights and a billet grill, only bolt on mods but nothing really too labor intensive Yesterday went to the junkyard and started getting parts i would need to do this swap, since that would be the cheapest way to get the parts and...
