Body Work & Detailing

Waxing washing, wheel cleaning and body work. This is the place to discuss those topics.
most likely I am not posting in the right areas sorry. I have a 2017 explorer xlt fwd with about 40k miles. Last Friday a guy drinking decided to lose control of his mustang and crash into the side of my truck...still waiting on the police report and haven’t taken it into a body shop so my question is... A. How bad does it look. B. Are these cracks in the trunk areas from the crash because the trunk looks like there’s a larger gap on one side. C. Should I take it to the ford dealership I bought it from to get fixed? Thanks everyone
Very happy with the 2018 Explorer but I thought the all white body was a bit much. So after getting quotes for both painting and wrapping the roof, I went ahead with the wrap alternative, using glossy black (Avery). It was much less expensive and it is reversible. I plan a proper photo shoot later, but here is an iPhone image from our garage: (lost photo) It was done by a local shop called "The Dip Doctor". Jacob
Hey everyone, i have a 2014 Sport that has a blown out rear sunroof/panoramic glass from a hail storm. What was left of the orignal has been removed and I have the replacement. I was hoping it was a simple install, but the is no way from the top to get the piece in place and bolted back in. How do I install it? Do I have to drop the headliner? Drop the whole sunroof assembly? If anyone has done this, I sure would appreciate some direction.
Just got a new 2018 Explorer, Base model V6. Want to replace the chrome front grill with a black one and after checking around on eBay, the black Police Interceptor Grill is about $350ish, while the black Grill for the Sport is about $500ish. Some of the "check compatibility" links using my VIN show it will work, while others say it will not. I called Fairway Ford in Ohio that sells parts on eBay and they said they sell quite a few of the Interceptor Grills and about 20% of them get returned as the customer said "it didn't fit", while 80% of people are keeping them. Sooooo......it must be working somehow! lol I'm specifically looking at Part # FB5Z8200GB Any input? Thanks, John
First I want to thank everyone for looking at my post. I am new to ExplorerForum, but it has been very helpful already. I am a huge Ford fan, but my wife's 2017 Explorer Sport was in a wreck a couple of weeks ago and the damage seems oddly excessive. My wife was pulling into the parking garage at her work and when she pushed the brake pedal there was nothing there. That's the least concerning part of my story. So we called the insurance and they looked at the damage (see pic) and they estimated about $ 6k. It was a low speed impact, no airbag, no seat belt marks, so roughly 3 to 5 miles per hour. Regardless, we have it taken to our repair shop of choice. They have it for about a week taking it apart and identifying any damage...
Does anyone know of a current source for this black grille? I had one on back order through Summit Racing for several months but they finally informed me that the manufacturer (Sherman) had discontinued the part... The other obvious alternative would be to paint the original chrome grille black (or body color). However, mine is so badly wrinkled that I will need to remove the chrome plating before I can paint it. What is the best method for removing chrome from plastic parts?
Ok, I'm a dummy and I did it to myself. Project truck has been sitting for quite some time and only getting washed but never really dried off. Now I've got Bad A$$ water spots all over the hood that are getting on my nerves. Tried Dupont #7 polishing compound by hand. Nothing McGuire's polishing compound by hand. Nothing. I guess it's time for an orbital buffer and something like Fast Cut. Or does someone else have a better product that will work with a buffer? P.S. Factory Black Paint...
I'm doing some body work on my 1999 2-door Explorer. Both the outer and inner rocker panels are rusted out. I can find replacement outers just fine; however, the inners elude me. Some say "no big deal" because they don't add any structural support. Others speak of doors not fitting well without the inners. So, has anyone found a source for inner rocker panels for the 2-door body style? Or a substitute? Thanks. DugIn
I currently have the Ford OEM Window Deflectors / Window Vents on my '16 Explorer. I've never really been in love with them since I put them on, as I have the silver car with the top of the window line going down the car - the car window frames/pillars are black and make a nice clean line of black down the side of the car with the silver above it (I hope that makes sense). With the Ford vents with the double-sided 3M tape, the top of the vents is higher than that nice black line, thus breaking up the "clean look" of it. (I'd take a picture but I already took them off). So, aside from the OEM deflectors breaking that line, my front passenger door deflector started peeling off, flapping around while driving, so it gave me an excuse to...
My wife backed our 2013 Explorer Sport right into my F-150 and in doing so popped the rear hitch cover off. When I tried to put it back on, I realized one of the female clips on the body had broken. These aren't the male pins on the hitch cover - these are the clips that the male pieces lock into. A short search indicated Ford wanted me to buy a whole new chuck of bumper cover plastic (~$100, give or take) for want of a tiny little clip! Ugh. So I dove back into the innerwebs and discovered that the clips are Southco (Dzus) parts. The part number is D1-004-915-010. One source at Amazon sells them but they are crazy-priced at $20 apiece. The best deal I could find was through D. B. Roberts Company. They have a minimum order quantity of...
