Offroad Projects

Big projects... Lifts, Swaps, etc... IMPORTANT As the subject use your name, or the name of your truck, and the name of the project. Such as Superlift 5.5" installation, Dana 44 conversion, etc.

I did a search on this because I didnt wanna start an unnecessary thread, so i searched on the T-5 and Atlass trannies because I've been curious with everyone talking about them. I didnt find exactly what I wanted though, so maybe somebody can help. So...What is the main difference between the two? Which is better for what? What is the availability? How much $$$$? I've been wanting to know, because I'm sort of expanding my horizons and getting into stuff in the drivetrain and all sorts of other important parts. Thanks alot guys, ~Grant
I am thinking of changing out my mazda 5-spd for something that can handle more aggressive driving. I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers.Whats the cheapest place to order a BW T-5, or can I use one out of a Mustang? Is there a specific model of mustang that I should look for that has the T-5?Are there any places that make a conversion kit to make this any easier for the above average shade-tree mechanic?Any help or comment is appreciated.
Part II of the Saga..... After many delays and no progress other than pulling my V6 and tranny. I have decided that the job is best done by a professional. Since I don't have enough money for one of those....I'm doing it all myself! Step 1, Is the retrieval of my stuff from the "Speed Shop". The guy had good intentions just no follow through. I was paitent when it took 3 weeks to get the motor pulled. I was very calm when he told me the sterio was stolen while it was parked in his shop. I was concerned when he kept stalling on installing the gears. Today he called and said he couldn't install the gears because he couldn't afford to buy the parts. ( You usually pay after the job is done ) Could I pay in advance? It...
Time for me to live upto my name ( Sorta, anyway ) My money definately "GoesFast" out of my wallet. My conversion project is now underway. I have actually spent money. I have a local Speed Shop doing the work and I am being active in teh process. The goal. A 302 F.I. motor and an AOD automatic tranny. The motor will give me about 275 HP at the crank. Should have plenty of torque. The AOD has a 2.48 first gear and a a 33% overdrive in forth. With 5.13 gears ( Yep ) and 35" tires I'll be turning 2300 RPM at 70 mph. 2100 RPM if I have 4.56 gears. The tranny is fully locked in 3rd & 4th gear so no slippage and little heat. Price.. So Far Motor & Shipping $1600 306 CI, freshly built plus a few extras thrown in for...
