Hi, My name is Sævar and I´m 22, I live near the capital Reykjavik Iceland and I recently bought a slightly modified 91 Explorer I have owned a lot of cars in my short yet life, but only 3 american made, first an AMC Eagle 82 and a Cherokee Country 1995, and now this Explorer Ive mostly had Suzukies in the past, and for the longest time, since 2007 until recently I had a Vitara of which I also modified a little bit, heres a photograph It has 38" super swampers and toyota pickup axles with locker, toyota transfer box and gearbox and 2.5 turbo diesel intercooled Hyundai engine my plans with the explorer so far are unknown, Im thinking of finishing it up and using this winter and seeing what needs better finishing, but before...

Im slightly new to this forum. I used to have a 1992 ranger 4x4 prerunner with about 17" of travel all around sitting on king coilovers, and deavers in the back with king smoothbodies. This is going to be a new style project for me. im going to take a few pages from the guys that run jeep speed. Here is how it sits rightnow My plans: rear spring over with custom doetshe tech 2.0 monotube rebuildable shocks, and daystar stinger bumpstops Front dana 30 sas swap: diff is a Cherokee high pinion dana 30 with tj axle shafts using the larger u-joint. Ford ranger front wheel bearing so I can reuse the factory abs Ford ranger brake caliper, pad and rotor bolted to a modified tj steering knuckle. The modified knuckle will also be reverse...
Hello all, Long time user and fan, but been a long time since ive been on. O did my SAS about 6-7 years ago and posted on this site. Ive been running it with no problems besides the normal breakage. Lately i have been itchin for a upgrade and came across some up grades. I havent been on for ever so forgive me if im in the wrong thread, but back in the day it was easy to navigate this site. But anyways i have started my rock well conversion. I have rebuilt both axles flipped the rear hubs, shaved the breaks, added pinion breaks, grizzly locked the front welded the rear. Bought hummer h1 double beadlocks with rockwell welded in inserts. Plan on running 47 ltbs. Im running the BTF single reverse triangulated converions with coils...
Boomin's getting a sex change *PICS* Haha guy well here we go. This weekend I will take the last pics of the truck lowered. I have decided that it is the best for me to lift my truck for 2 reasons. 1 is that it will slow me down some hopefully and 2 is that noone really has done what I am doing to a mountaineer. What my plans are: Suspention: -3'' lift spindles -3'' TT by flipping and rotating the adjuster w/stock bolts -SOA in rear possibly with shackles Body: -3'' body -3'' Fiberglass fenders Tires: -15x10 wheels -35x12.50 Mt's I will be posting pics of the progress. This monday/tuesday I am doing the TT and SOA with monoleafs.
So I haven't been posting much or working on the Navajo. I have been wheeling some and dirtbiking alot and just not doing much new stuff to the truck. Anyway, I have been gathering parts and need to do some wrenching and take it to the next level. I did add a new door last night! The old one wouldn't roll up due to the new dents. Partly from Independance trail, partly from an encounter with a tree snow wheeling! Here's the new parts going in: 1) 8.8 New Axle- The old one has some ghetto brackets and the pinion bearing is toast. I paid a guy to setup the gears and he must have set the pinion preload with an impact or something. I need to do something about this soon! 2) 8.8 Detroit EZ Locker Got it cheap 3) Dana 44 Detroit...
My new front end got in today. It's a custom Dynatrac 44 front axle assembly. List of goodies include: Reverse cut housing upgrade Warn premium manual locking hub set 30 spline 3/4 ton alloy steel axles Upgraded Disc brake Ass. 5.5.5 Ford coil spring bracketry 5:13 gears-reverse cut ARB 3.92+ ver. 1310 dana 44 u-bolt style yoke Heavy duty ends package Heavy duty steel dif. cover High clearance steering package Width= 62 in. I saved my pennies for quite awhile to be able to afford it but she's a beauty. I almost feel like not installing it. I hope the pictures come out my battery started going dead. The installer is fourxDr. in Burbank and Winter's designing the radius arms. We know they will be wristed but will...
Public Service Message: For those of your considering swapping in a 5.0L V8 and AOD in your explorer, consider using a 4R70W (aka: AODE-W) wide ratio electronic controlled transmission instead of a traditional AOD. For those of you who don't know, I used a AOD (automatic Overdrive) in my Explorer V8 project. The AOD's torque conveter locks up in 3rd and Fourth gear by the use of a one piece lockup shaft in the transmission. This means that the torque multiplying effect only exists in 1st and 2nd gear. After completing my 5.0 swap, I wish I could have used an A4LD rather than the AOD. lol. The AOD is controlled by a mechanical linkage called a throttle valve cable. This cables tells your transmission how to shift......and...
MidnightRebel07's Sport Trac SAS, 351w Build on 37's I've been talking for years about doing this and since the transmission is on it's way out enough to where I can't drive it a long distance, the fan clutch died (can't drive it without fan) I parked it. I started tearing everything from the rear suspension to do the SOA. finished that yesterday (for the most part). Perches are tacked in (will finish welding them on with the Miller 252 at my custom truck clubs garage once I get everything mocked into place and a space opens up). Shocks are bolted into the top bolt hole for the sway bar (sway bar is removed). I cut the shock mounts off of the spring plates and will weld them onto the top of the axle later. I still need to get longer...
as yall know, im lifting my explorer again, well here are a few pics of it still on the lift front axle installed and soon the rear should be in within a few days this explorer now has a D44, soon to get the 3/4ton hubs and spindles, 12 inch superlift springs, the front crossmember from chucks trucks measures out to 7 inch lift, so thats 19 inches total, the steering is the extreme crossover steering setup from SKY Mfg. the rear will be getting a 14bolt rear that i purchased from a friend along with the front axle thats under there the tires that are on there are the bald F'd up 39.5 swampers that came with the deal, but we calculated that 44s will easily clear with room to spare, based on the math that the bald 39.5 measures...
Well, it all started with me breaking an axle on friday. Had to drop the diff to get the broken shaft piece out. Then the seal was ruined as well, scrapping a trip that i had planned for 2 weeks in advanced for on saturday. I was thinking, why waste 50 bucks on the ifs axle when im gonna be ripping it out shortly. So i called my buddy and we started tearing into the mounty at 6:30 pm until 10pm, and monday from 2-10pm. We are on hold for parts so we can make brackets. I have 2 Rustys off road 180 pound coils, 24" extened, we calculated that it should be around 18 inches compressed. As for the suspension design, its getting a triangulated 4 link. It kinda helps when you are friends with a suspensions engineer. Well heres the...
So I will be doing my 5.0 swap soon and want to take care of this other problem which has been plaguing my 35s and I for some time now...rack 'n pinion I really like the way Toyota did their IFS and am considering trying to mimic this. What I like is that it keeps all the steering components up out of the way while adding the strength of a gearbox. I have done some searching and cannot find anyone who may have done this before. If you have or know someone who has, pics would greatly be appreciated. I have also heard that Nissan may have this same type of setup but thats going to require more searching.
Ok decided I would like to run 37's. I know knowi just locked the front and etc, etc. but over the next year i will have about 3 months(non consecutive) of time to wheel. the rest will be spent in schools training to to be an uber elite solider wearing a green beret. So I was like heck might as well do a SAS and do it right since I will gonna be saving all that money. I've been thinking about axles.. tons of choices are brought up by research. My questions are there : Should I buy a currie built axle or get a junk yard one and rebuilt it (remember time is not an option for me at this point but i did find one at a junk yard for 350 or so)? How do i measure for coil-overs? (something i noticed no one covered in their threads)...
