WHOOPS!!

Sometimes things don't always go as planned. Post pictures and stories of your best...or worst mishaps here.

I was on vacation this week towing our 23' trailer with a 2007EB 4.6L. I had just under half a tank left and it was only 60km to the next town. Well towing at 8.5mpg quickly moved that fuel gauge! The gauge was on E and I was watching the driving computer in the dash telling me the distance to empty. 10 miles (Okay, should be close), 5 miles (hmm, where is that station?), 3 miles (how am I going to explain this to the wife?), we crest a hill and there is the station!! As I am slowing to make the turn the computer switches to 0 miles left. I make it the pumps and start pumping. The manual states the capacity is 85.2 Liters. I pumped in 83.9 Liters!!! I must have been seconds away from stalling. After that I filled up at 1/2...
So for about a 2 months now my neighbor has complained that his driver's side windshield wiper didn't work very well. He told me he had tried several different brands of blades with no improvement. The last one he purchased was a very expensive blade, costing nearly $20. I asked if he'd tried cleaning the glass well, as perhaps it had oil or wax on it and that was contaminating the blade. He said he'd try that, then later reported still no improvement. This went on for about 2 months (I never actually saw the vehicle). Then one day I ran into him at the store and while we were talking in the parking lot, I happened to notice that his driver's side windshield wiper blade wasn't even touching the glass. The arm was bent and the blade was...
I was on my way home from work when i fell asleep, i woke up right as the tires went off the road, i didnt have time to react before i hit a culvert which launched me into the air(probably about 3-4 foot) and i hit a telephone pole(snapped the telephone pole in half) and then rolled it. It slid on the passengers side into a tree... I walked away from it with a few bruises. I think she'll buff right out;) Before: After:
My son decided to let his mind wander and rear ended a Tahoe with the 2003 Sport Trac we got him and his sister to use. The grill, hood, battery, power steering reservoir, wheel well liners, hood hinges, left front fender, serpentine belt and more are toast. The repair estimate is almost $6000 and could go higher. Vehicle value is $5300. Needless to say its totaled. We were hoping to fix it but at that price its not worth it. Fortunately comprehensive wasn't too expensive so we'll get some money to cover the loss. The 2003 had only 86k miles on it. A quick glance at other used ones in the $5300 range (actually less since we have to reserve some for tax, title and registration) shows most have well over 100k. But we're not...
Yesterday, I'm pulling of a store lot into the street. When I shift into second, my clutch pedal collapses to the floor with a snap. Great, I'm in second gear and on a main road. I look for a nice spot to pull over into, and right there is a NAPA. :D I pull in, jump out, and find the clutch pushrod pieces on the floor. Thinking that Napa wouldn't have one and that there's the Ford dealer on block over, I checked at Napa anyway, because I'm lazy. Turns out they have one, but I needed to but the complete clutch master cyl, for $59. I figured Ford would be the same, so I bought it, went out and popped it in and drove home. :) These pushrods are made of metal on the master cyl end, but the last few inches at the pedal end are solid...
I live in Brooklyn, NY. I am always loath to climb under a jacked-up truck on a city street - you just never know… Consequently, I occasionally visit a mechanic for work that I would ordinarily do myself. On this particular occasion, we needed a routine starter replacement. The mechanic was going to install it while I waited - 15 minute job! As the lift raised my beloved '93 to just above my head, a strong wind hit the side of the truck. The lift shook and without notice the vehicle lurched. I reflexively stepped back away back and not a second too soon!! It immediately crashed onto it's side to the ground at my feet!! My first concern was for the lift operator who had been standing closer than I! A panicked scan revealed...
Well, the wife and I decided to find some mud that hasn't dried up... ...found it... ...broke cable on cheap "come-along" hook & pulley snapped back into knee... ...truck left in woods. walk/limped home, taking a break and eating... ...then we will be off to our cousins to get chain falls... ...pics to follow
I noticed there aren't too many of those disastrous pics of explorers ruined from deer. You know, where a tiny car is missing half its body due to a 40 mph impact. I've hit 4 deer now, one just the other day. The only damage has ever been a cracked headlight that was a $25 fix. I drove right over the first one; I was going about 50 mph, braked hard until it hit, then rolled over it. Hit the back end of the second one with the front right of the truck while accelerating, and I was at about 40 mph. This one was in the dead of an MN winter and was hiding behind a 10' tall snow bank in a driveway. I only saw the head, and actually thought I hit an owl at first. The third one was a solid hit head on, and some part of it hit the headlight at...
I met many EF members during the two Ouray, CO CCR's that I attended (2007 & 2008), so I wanted to pass this along in hopes that no one here ever gets into this situation: http://denver.cbslocal.com/2014/09/01/none-injured-in-rollover-on-mountain-pass/ It was the Jeep in front of me. I was the next vehicle behind them as we were descending... We stopped at the stairs to give them room, so I didn't see it roll, but I came up on it after it had just settled. I helped the driver and passenger scramble back up and we helped them haul out their stuff. Really nice guy. Don't think that JKUR had 5k miles on it yet. Went too far left, flopped right, momentum carried him over the edge. This was right after the water crossing, before the...
Today I was driving into work in my girlfriends 2011 Lincoln MKZ we just bought from Carmax 3 weeks ago (still has temp tags!!!!!) and lets just say it didn't go as planned. Just driving in my lane and a woman decided to try to pull into a Tim Hortons and must not have seen me coming. Luckily I am safe and she was ok as well. She was given a ticket for failing to yield and turned out also had a suspended license. Time to deal with insurance companies :thumbdwn:
