Start with alittle stainless steel mesh:

Cut off the ford emblem with a hacksaw. This encludes the holder.

Measure up some mesh, shear it to size, Cut round, prime, paint...

where did you get the mesh?
 






is that an explorer? and yeah where did you buy the mesh i have been looking for just regular mesh, i like that look and i like that its not bought that way

i think you should be able to get it at any hardware store, like home depot or lowe's.

least i would hope so. if not there's always ebay!

why would that cause air flow problems? It's just like a large air filter.

By the way,that looks fantastic.

I did a similar modifcation on my Mazda,going the $1.99 route and using some Gutter Guard. It is not solid like the mesh,but is flexible and gives you the crosshatch mesh look.
