What did you do to your 5th Gen?

hey guys, new to the forum here. Just picked up my new (to me) 2016 Explorer Limited, Certified pre-owned last Friday. Traded in my 2009 F150 Lariat.

Been searching around on this forum for quite a bit already looking into everyones reviews and taseful mods.

I have weather-tech floor liners and window visors being delivered tomorrow, and I have an appointment for monday afternoon to get the front windows tinted to match the factory rears.

I'll get some photos posted in the near future.
Welcome to the Forum.
Enjoy the ride.

Peter

Installed OEM mudflaps/splash guards. I love that they match the lower black cladding. Wasn't sure how well aftermarkets match.

I lucked out and got the set for $80 shipped, I think thats a good deal. Next may be a hood guard, just not enough pics of the various brands on a 2016/2017.

@Summers22 thanks for the heads up about the OEM splash guards. Got mine but paid full retail and had Ford install them. Cost me $100 for the set and $100 labor to install.

I thought it was convenient since I was already there for my 30K service. I seriously have to take a class on being a service technician. $600 later. My service guy had some coupons and took $100 off overall.

Thanks for posting the pics, @jonnoriega. I've been considering adding the flaps to my ride, too, and yours looks similar enough that I can get a really good idea. I like the front, but the back is a little too long for my preferences.

They are that long to prevent dirt, mud, snow and slush from being thrown up unto the rear cladding. I had them on my 2011. Supplied and installed for free as part of the deal.

I get the practical reason for them. My consideration is purely cosmetic. Dirt, mud, snow, and slush aren't significant concerns for the greater Los Angles area ;)

Actually @Eric F, once they're on they're actually not too bad. These are better looking because they're contoured to the X. Also, cost more at $49.99 per pair but you can probably find them cheaper if you look on line.

I was asking about them in the parts department and they just happened to have a set so I purchased them. If I would have known that they would add another $140 hour labor, I would have done them myself but they had to drill holes. Also, they toof $40 off of labor... whoopie...

Looks good @jonnoriega ! The holes to be drilled were just in plastic, but each wheel needed removed. It gave me a chance to check brake pads and torque the lugnuts.

Got the weathertech window visors installed, paid $50 for the set used on ebay with new tape installed on the rears. They do look brand new still. Absolutely no issue with the windows closing. On to the pics:

just installed my weathertech window visors last night, as well as their digital fit floor mats:

I have always used weathertech products in all my vehicles. top notch quality. One thing with these mats though is that they are a lot more flexible than past ones I have had in my vehicles, especially the 2nd and 3rd rows. Fitment is excellent, just a little concerned with the flxibility in case something spills or water from snowmelt and having to pull them out. Time will tell though.

sorry for the double post, but Summer what tint% do you have if you don't mind me asking. They match the rears excellently. Did you do another layer over the factory on the rears as well as they look a bit darker than typical? I know that when taking photos tinted windows tend to look darker than in person, especially depending on angle of the photo and lighting.

Now that I've seen the WeatherTech driver's side liner installed I can see that Husky liners not only cover the carpeted area to the door sill but also cover the entire foot rest (dead pedal). http://www.explorerforum.com/xenfor...our-5th-gen-today.430705/page-30#post-3610674
So depending upon what part of the country you live, one would be better than the other to keep the carpet clean. Better but not perfect.:)

yea I was also bummed about that part as well, considering I live in new england with its glorious winters haha.

as Ive said, the fitment is excellent, but overall design wise I was much happier with their products in all of my other vehicles that i am with these ones (F150, Civic, Grand Cherokee).

The fronts are 20%, nothing done to the rears. It was overcast in the pics.

thanks for the info. I actually have an appointment set up for monday and was planning on matching the rears. very reputable shop local to me, I asked them what factory was and they said on all the fords when people come in asking to match they use 20%.

I had 35% on my F150, but it always felt too light in color from both the outside looking in and vice versa.

You are welcome!
