And the winner is . . . The fuel damper!

    Starting Oddity

Now, on a cold start, it tends to not start. Then, on the next key turn I give it gas and it fires up. Fuel filter (I hope) or fuel pump (I fear)? Any thoughts?

    Rust

So about the POR-15, does this really work? Some of the areas are difficult to sand/scrape as they're so tight.

    Rust

Underneath (both scraped off rust and on the other side of the panels) are solid. As for the color, thanks, but since this is all totally hidden under trim or facing the inside it's not really seen.

    Rust

Zinc-based. Never would have guessed. Thanks.

    Rust

    Brilliant! Thanks.

    Rust

A few years ago I sanded off what was then, light rust, and used White Rustoleum. Part of me thinks that at least some of this visible rust is in fact the Rustoleum.

    Rust

My 02 is beginning to show rust on the lower insides of the front and rear passenger doors. They are less used than the drivers side and I'm guessing snow gets caught up in those places. The rust is not noticeable from the outside due to the plastic trim so my only concern is safeguarding the...

    Starting Oddity

02 XLT 8cyl 170,000 miles runs great overall Of late: Cold start > always hesitant, cranks once, sound dies to almost nothing, then it starts but RPM drops to almost nothing, then after a few seconds it fires up to normal. The delay between first crank and then fire up varies, as does the...

    Turpentine Smell

I recently started smelling something like turpentine or a solvent when driving. I won't say that it's very strong but it is noticeable. It's hard to judge whether it's AC related since I have it on a lot, but when I sniff directly in the blowing vent I don't smell it. Any suggestions...

    Tranny Flush or Change

I'd recommend getting the Chilton manual. It will give you a better understanding of the procedure. If there are links on the forum I could not find them (after only a quick search though). In the meantime, from the Chilton: -You need a special tool and fitting to remove the plug. -You need...

    Tranny Flush or Change

Agreed with all of the above. Do it! And, make sure they know how first. At 50,000 Ford replaced the tranny (under extended warranty). At 100,000 I had my local Rapid Oil place do the flush and it took them 3+ hours (with me waiting in the Ex). Then, come to find out they did it wrong so I...

    Snap or Thump in Front

Well, it was the left end link. I had guessed it but with that sound it could have been anything from a dead squirrel rattling around to a ...? As noted here I couldn't get the left one off last fall when I changed the right one. All is now well, I think.

    Snap or Thump in Front

Now that's an interesting idea. Too bad it's snowing like crazy and I'm wearing a suit today.

    Snap or Thump in Front

Driving around today I notice thump noise, like someone is under the front end, occassionally tapping it with a rubber mallet. It definately happens when I go over a dip that is big enough to cause the truck to sag down. Normal bumps don't seem to bring it on. After an hour searching here, no...

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

Update! The new FOB arrived this morning (from the supplier who BigRondo recommended) and it works! The two originals (both working) and two replacements (one used to work, the other never has) all have the same numbers on them. The new one (which works) has no numbers on it at all.

    Yep, same numbers all around.

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

Yes, there's one new battery, direct from Ford and the new FOB came with a battery (assumed good). Lebowski's idea got me thinking that the new battery was dead. It's not. But I hunted around and found my original FOB, thanks JAD2411. It reprograms just fine but the broken hoop is on the part...

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

That's a fine idea. I'll try that while I'm waiting for the ebay one to arrive.

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

Thanks. I paid $30 for the latest one, which is supposedly OEM. But at $16 I've got little to lose. The link you posted showed the item listing as over but it lead me to their ebay store. This is promising as the one they list for my truck has a disclaimer ( 4 DOOR MODELS ONLY! ), which I...

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

Nope. I threw it out awhile back. Thanks BigRondo, read the threads first and did as directed. No matter which remote I press first, the only one I get action from is my wife's. The new one and recently dead one elicit no response from the truck.

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

Thanks. That occurred to me as well. I'm the original and only owner of the vehicle. I replaced one a few years ago because the plastic hoop broke. So, the newest one is the fourth.

Programming a new FOB -failing at it.

The other day, all of a sudden, one of my FOBs died (I think). So I put a new battery in (direct from FORD) and tried to reprogram. No luck. My wife's worked though. Anyway, I then bought a new FOB and tried to program. No luck again although my wife's works. On all occasions I did the 8x...
