Someone needs to clear this up for me!

Ok, so my Explorer has the standard problem that points to the governor sticking. (Delay from park to reverse/drive. No 1-2 shift unless I let up on the gas then it will shift.) I already replaced them modulator(and yes I remember to put the pin back in) and it still did it. So, I call autozone asked for a Governor for it, and they dont have it listed. So I called ford who proceeded to tell me that there is not governor on 91's and that its all electronic.. I told them they were wrong and even described to them that it sits inside the transfer case right beside the output shaft, and they look at me like im an idiot....sooo long story short I am going to just order the part and replace it myself. The thing i need though, is the part number for it, because aparently autozone doesnt call it a governor. Is it listed as something else? Could someone gimme the autozone part number for it? If not, where can I get one. Someone help. These clueless people i've been on the phone with are starting to tick me off. Thanks!

Autozone does not sell transmission parts except for the vacuum modu;ator kinda stuff. Internal hard parts, no soap.

You will need to check places like Axiom.

Ford can sell you a new governor too. I'd replace the entire governor. there are 4 parts, you'll be better off to just replace the entire thing.

Only problem with Ford is when I called them asking about getting it replaced they said there was no governor. They basically called me a liar. So I dunno. Is there another name they for it that they call it?

You may have already done this but it is time to call a different dealer, as the one you are currently having the problems with are obviously inept when it comes to product/parts knowledge. I am sure that you could call one close(if it is out of town) and they could ship you the part for a nominal fee. Unfortunately, good dealers are hard to find these days. Hope this helps

Part numbers (generic) are - Governor Body 7A300... spring 7A302...Valve 7C054.... weight 7D324.

Even when you get the parts from the dealer, always double check what they are giving you. I've ordered parts from dealers until I started to find other sources. They were known to make mistakes in ordering things, then insisted that the part in their hand was either what I had asked for (even if it went on another vehicle!), or the price changed as fast as the stock market. I ordered a fitting for a P/S pump, and needed a second one. The second part that came in a week later (identical part) was half the price! They will not give out any information either. If you ask them a question, they will tell you to make an appointment to have your vehicle brought in for service.

Ok, once I get the parts. How involved of a process is this? How long would it take me? And is the governor at the front or rear of the transfer case?

I'm sure glad I went surfing through older posts / threads / whatever they are called. The 1993 Limited 4x4 4DR my daughter bought has the 1-2 automatic shift problem. Now I have some part numbers and a place to start my troubleshooting. Another repair for another weekend on a different vehicle. Too many vehicles, too little ca$h.

Skimming through 12 pages of other people's problems has paid off! Thanks!

In regard to finding and ordering parts, from any dealer or parts store, I had a similar problem finding locating the correct Transfer Case Input Shaft Seal for my 1993. It took me almost a week and a half to find the correct FLANGED seal. Ford didn't even have the correct seal, even though their parts system showed a flanged seal the ordered it and received a non-flanged seal. Napa sold the seal, but didn't have is shown for the Explorer transfer case. Once I found a potential part (the store that gave me the number didn't carry it) I took the part number to Napa and, a perfect match, including all of the marks and numbers imprinted in the molded rubber around the seal.

Someone needs to clear this up for me!
