Clearing CEL

When you clear the codes with a code reader, does it reset all the other values like disconnecting the battery does?

After changing the o2 sensor in the Explorer, I need to CEL to clear, but I have to smog it tomorrow so I can't do the hard reset. Otherwise I'll have to drive it again. Expired tags and no front right shock (or hoop).

If you clear the codes, you will get a P1000 meaning that all of the OBDII monitors have not completed since the last reset. Inspectors will usually fail you for a P1000 because it shows that you may have just reset the PCM to avoid showing a CEL or DTC. It takes some drive time to complete the monitors and clear the P1000.
