Hi guys - I currently have a 04 F150 and swapped out the factory stereo for an Eclipse AVN5435 - works perfectly with the factory harnass connections from Crutchfield. I think i would like to do the same to my wife's 02 Explorer. Any idea if this unit or similar will fit and connect without major headaches. I am not finding information to help me select compatible NAV/DVD units like i did for my F150. I dont need the latest and greatest nor do i need to pay big $$ for something like this in this vehichle so any input or suggestions are welcome. Thanks again!

Any of the Pioneer AVIC line are a good choice, as well as the Eclipse you mentioned.

The 3rd gens have a true double-DIN slot, so you won't have any problems installing.. just wire up the harness, get the mounting kit, and you're golden.

HTH.

I have an Eclipse AVN-6620 and matching iPod adapter installed in my 04 EB. The only hassle is finding the reverse and speed sensor wires...and even that isn't difficult.

thanks - thats what i kinda thought - but ya never know - i'll keep you posted on progress

I have three Pioneer Z series running. All upgraded to Z3. They are very, very good units. I would avoid the Pioneer F series units at this time...but it may be worth your while to wait a month or so for them to get the software bugs fixed. For the price, that has to have the most capability of anything on the market. Heck...I KNOW it does. You should see some of the things guys are doing with that thing. And the best unit is well under a grand. Worth a look. I'm going to try one. There is nothing else out there that can touch the capabilities of this unit if you're willing to do some programming on your own.

does the unit read the speed sense wire and make it so you cant watch a dvd while driving? im sure you just grounded the parking brake wire, but i heard that the speed pulses will impair that too.

No, the VSS wire (at least in the Eclipse units) is for the accuracy of the GPS. I did indeed ground the brake wire.

how do you like your eclipse? have you had ant other ones to compare it to? we just started installing those instead of pioneers at the shop i work at. we install the avn-62d which is a dealer only model that is no different from the 6620. i havent heard much feedback from people yet, so i am curious as to what people think of that unit.

I like it. The expandability of it is excellent (iPod interface, Sirius/siruis traffic, camera(s), etc etc). My only camplaint would be that the menus seem fairly plain and the maps aren't quite up to date. However, thats a software...not hardware...issue

Did you loose the steering controls or did you find an interface that worked with your new HU?

I'm a big fan of the Alpine double dins. It gets a little expensive to add nav, though. I like the W505 + Blackbird combo.
