...I finally went and did it...

..I mainly got it for work but also for trips...My cell phone had a cool feature that pinpointed where you were at and you could look up say "Hardware store" and it would give you a map...For some reason they quit doing this without warning...

...I used a buddy's truck the last couple of months and it had a GPS in it...I am currently working on 4 different jobs at the same time and they are spread out all over L.A. and Orange county...

...I carry my laptop with me all the time but it seems that everytime I pack it up, I need directions to somewhere...I have been searching the stores and was hoping since Circuit City was closing that I could find a killer deal..No such luck...They wanted $135 and up...:(

...At Christmas time out here, everyone was selling a Tom Tom One 125 for $99 bucks..They flooded the market out here for Christmas so much, you could walk into a 7-11 or Circle K to get them...After Christmas, and since, they have been about $150-$175...

...I went by a Fry's Electronic's today and they have the left overs for $99 bucks...They also have the Tom Tom One 130 model at a price of $149 (lowest price guarantee also),which has U.S. and Canada maps...

...So, this is what I got...It has a lot of cool features and now I have all my Construction needs at my finger tips...:biggthump

...Well, this little thing gets a :biggthump

..:shifty_ey ..The first thing I did was modify the arrow pointer...It is now a Ranger...:D...I did not find any Explorer pointers...:(

...I made good use of it today...About 150 miles in traffic, 3 different counties, with seven different stops...I like how I can go left to a known to me location and it will in seconds, adjust and remap...The voice coming out the speaker is as loud as I want it to be and she is not annoying at all...It is a quick couple taps to mute the voice...

...I easily found several different Home Depots along my trek today without looking for them...

...The ease of use for me was incredible...Entering an address and setting a course was painless...I have a compass setting, actual speed, posted speed, streets, name of street notice of where to turn, miles and yards to turns, plus the voice navigation and more...It shows points of interest that you can easily program in (Such as Home Depot/Lowes), every gas station, and can even enter GPS coordinates....It can be unplugged for 3 1/2 hours of use and it reads multiple satellites...It was reading 9 satellites the whole time I was driving...

...I did notice that my speedo is off...0-49 mph, my speedo is dead on...Only at 50 mph I am really doing 53 mph...When I hit 60 mph I am doing 65, 5 miles an hour faster on my GPS all the way up to 80 (clocked by gps 85)...Sorry, 82 was as fast as I got...

...If anyone has any questions, just ask...This thing does so much more than they advertise...I am very happy with this model and it's price...:D

i have a garmin nuvi (i dont remember the number) and i love that thing! glad you enjoy your tomtom. its so helpful to have all that stuff right at our fingertips. i use mine to see my real speed since my speedo is off. and it always shows the posted speedlimit so even if i cant find a sign i can make sure im not going too fast. well i just wanted to say that i love mine too and if anyone out there is kicking around the idea of getting one...do it...you will be glad you did.

my dad got a tom tom as well but his tells u the name of the streets and etc it talks to you it has text to speech he got the tom tom 130s

he had the one like urs before but it didnt name off the street names it would just say go right or go left and etc.

But the tom tom he has now says the street names and other extra features that the tom tom you have doesnt have.

he likes the one he got better.

...Sam, Mine talks also...You can even add voices like John Cleese (Mounty Python fame)..For a plus price I can also add, "Find the cheapest gas"...I am going to hold on that for now...:D

Does this mean that the Thomas Guide has gone the way of the DoDo bird???
Gosh I hope not! lol:rolleyes:

...I hope not...I learned to read from a thomas guide...:(

lol i see i am not the only one who finally broke down and bought a GPS :D

I love my Garmin Nuvi 200. Its the cheapest one, so its not too fancy. Had it about a year and I don't know how i ever got around without it. I need to update the maps in it though. Only thing i don't like is if i pull off into a gas station or someplace else it thinks i'm taking a detour and keeps trying to recalculate the route. I sometimes get tired of that voice saying "recalculating" over and over while I'm at the drive-through, lol.

I have the Nuvi 250. I changed it to the female voice with the British accent, nicer but still annoying when she argues with me. Actually, she sounds annoyed when she says recalculating. I use an aftermarket (from Ebay) heater vent mount, keeps it high up without blocking the windshield, stereo or anything.

i got one of these too, but i got the Lowrance XOG< it does all the same stuff , and has the ability to add any map from the Navionics collection, including topo and lake contour maps, and it is semi waterproof,

...The Tom Tom does not say, "re-calculating", thank goodness...I did catch it in a goof on a straight stretch on the 5 freeway..."Stay left and then, stay left"..:wtf:

..The Tom Tom has a new map guarantee and free map share to ensure the most up to date maps within 30 days of re mapping...

...I am curious of the new cost of your GPS systems though for comparison..

I have a TomTom One....its ok. I want to throw it out of the car sometimes "Turn right, while keeping left in the right left lane while staying left towards your right".
Needs more detailed street view.

......Mine seems to have great detail in probably the worst highway and street area's in the nation...:dunno:

...I did adjust my settings and played with them a bit, nothing major at all...

I have a Delorme plugs into laptop works great except where there has been alot of construction, or where there are freeways very close to eachother.(like in the bay area!) I almost threw the whole thing out the window, when, for 10 miles it kept yelling at us "Your off course go back go back, exit next exit and go back!" Turns out it was lost! lol WE just kept going! I'll stick with the old printed paper thank you.

Like I needed anymore stress riding with a very tired zukman driving a 35' rolling billboard, with way too many interchanges on the road! roflol.

...If I remember, I will post a pics of a major freeway intersection on my way home...It will be going back from La Canada Country Club, down the 5, thru L.A....:D

Should've got the Garmin!!! Both are great units, between my Mom and Dad they have a Garmin and Tom Tom.

Only reason I prefer the Garmin is that you can plug it in and change the voices. Like my Dad's is a "Devil" voice now from the Dark Ages. As we're driving down the road he'll go "Remiiiiiiinds me of a drive down route 6...6...6... I took one time", or "don't mind the noise coming from the trunk".

...Tell your parents they can get different voices with there Tom Tom...;)

...I am still hoping people will update their post with the new prices of their Garmin's and other similar GPS...It may help others following this thread and looking for a new GPS...

When i was in Cali at Camp Pendleton I drove up to HB all the time to see my girl at the time. It was always confused and annoying on the 5. Especially where it meets the 405. Always telling me to keep left too. "I'm already keeping left, I can't keep left any further, especially when i need to merge right to get on the 405 you stupid sob"
