Alright I just got my explorer about a month ago.Its a 1992 2wd Eddie Bauer edition I'm looking to build the 4.0 that's in it just to get a little more power out of it.If anyone has some ideas and stuff please let me know I've looked every where for parts and its hard to find performance parts for a 4.0 but please post up sites and stuff like that where I can get parts and stuff.Thanks.Chris

There are lots of things you can do from the easy bolt on stuff to super chargers. You best source of info will be from searching the forums. This has been discussed countless times. Personally i would waist my money on power adders again. I had a 93 that i added a tb, exhaust and kkm air cleaner and those didnt seem to do much except make it sound nice. If you really want some mods that pay off you might want to look more into an electric fan, or doing some engine work like a new cam and what not.

thanks and what about a lift im looking a 4inch lift with 38's or will ill have to go bigger with the lift to fit 38's

Ummmm.... why in the world would you WANT 38's? One tire would cost 4x the cost of the truck.

Planning on doing some monster truck events???

But really, I'm sure you could do 38's, but I think about the biggest you ever see on these is 36's, with a 6" lift. AND a body lift. :) Or a lot of trimming, A LOT!

There are lots and lots of threads about lifts and tire sizes and such if you search.

I'll prob do 36's if I do 36's how much of a lift would I need I dont want there to be a big gap between the tire and my fender

I think for the price of upping the ex's horse power and adding the massive tires and lift , you could just buy a stock jeep wrangler. lol

On my 98 4.0 OHV ranger a cat-back/chip/intake standard bolt ons made a nice improvement. No dyno results or anything but gave it enough pop in the mid range to make me happy with the results.
Short of super charging, if your complaining about the performance with stock tires, trying to turn some 36" monsters will prolly be a bit underwhelming with the OHV.

Since you have a 2wd drive you might want to consider regearing rather than going the bolt on route, especially in light of the fact you want to go with bigger tires. With what you would pay for the bolt ons you might get more bang for the buck with new gears.

i agree with that.gears would be the best thing to start with because they are going to have to be done if you go 36.here is a thread about the gears you need.http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251093
also there is a ton of things you can do to the ohv to get power just expect to spend ALOT of cash.start with an efan and underdrive pulleys and if you have any money left after gears and those mods, prob well over 2grand just with that!!next i would done head swap to a 95tm head to take you to 10.3:1 and cam!and if you still have money or still want to keep moding come back and ill tell what else to do!:D:salute:

and you will need atleast 5.5 and a body lift.you can do a soa in the rear to save money

Alright thanks a lot and just wonderin what does soa im 17 and pretty much never really got into building just jumped in a truck and hit the mud hole

spring over axle, your stock springs are under the rear axle so you put them on top and it will give you around 5.5 lift.

oh ok thanks and I need the 4.88 gears Im back in forth between 33's and 36's

alright.Another question I can't seem to figure out what a locker is for can you help out a little

it makes both tires spin when accelerating.it should go in more detail in the link i posted

alright and ill only need one right.Sorry bout all the questions its my 1st time to build and work on gettin it were I want it

yea you only have 2wd so you only have one gear set.but in order to put a locker in you have to have whats called an open carrier.do you know what rear end you have now, like open or an lsd?look on you driver door if you dont know.no prob about the questions that what we are here for:thumbsup:
