I was about to purchase it and wondered what it looked like, was it worth it, and could I install it myself vs having to have a dealer install it?

I bought one and returned it because it does not allow you to use the 3rd row and hooks onto the side walls which can't be good long term. Kind of a pain in the a** to put in and take off.

I agree with Remeny. It was a pia to put on and take out because of the plastic hooks that it uses to snap behind the side body panels. I actually used it once and put it up for sale on eBay a day later. I decided to pull my 3rd row and put in a carpeted deck instead so now I can store anything I need to below the deck in the old seat well and it's out of sight.

That cargo shade was definitely an afterthought by Ford. It is a hoaky piece of junk.... I wouldn't waste my money on it if I were you.

thanks for the feedback everyone :) I can already tell this is a great forum!

I had a roll out shade on my 2004 Escape. Now that was nice. I took one look at the Explorer's and quickly decided that it was nothing of any use.

Mine came with it, but haven't used it yet

They are a pain. 100% percent of our SUV trades come in without them. Customers take them out and never put them back in. Pass.

Cargo Cover

I had fuly planned on buying one until I saw how badly implemented it was and what a pain it would be. I put some of that money mentally towards what I paid for my alarm system instead.

Worthless Junk

I tried to use it during a trip but ended up storing it. I thought it would keep my tools out of sight, but with the tinted windows you couldn't see them anyhow.

i absolutely love mine i have dark tinted windows which for whatever reason makes people look in it{ caught two people in the mall parking lot last christmas} so its been a blessing for us. now mind you some times it gets in the way but it rolls up and when i need it its there. like i said a blessing at times.

oh ok you all have a newer ex than me......tha is kind of ....well..... not as good as mine. dont think i would like that one. sorry for intruding

I have one as well and keep it on all the time. I sometimes have expensive camera equipment I would rather not be seen. That said I still have no clue how to attach the sides. I only have front and back attached which keeps everything all covered.

The one I had on my 4Runner was a gazillion times better.

Roll up cargo shade not available on 2011 and 2012 Exs.

Drag, cause that's how I like to....'roll.' Sorry, couldn't resist. That's what my BMW X5 had was a roll out shade included...even our 2004 Subaru Legacy has a roll out shade. Aftermarket design opportunity may be.

Roll up cargo shade not available on 2011 and 2012 Exs.

Dodge Durango(2011) Citadel I rented had a nice roller shade. Maybe some aftermarket company will come up with a nice roller. My '09 Enclave had a piece of fabric that fit over 4 hooks, however my '06 SRX(older style) had a removeable roller cover. I don't understand these companies cheaping out on nice touches on a $40k+ vehicle.

I like how the Durango's roller cover is designed. It is two attachment points inside the car: one forward if the third row is down, and one back if the third row is up. Great idea, simple execution and it works. I wish Ford would do something like that.

I just tried to cancel my order for the security shade but the salesmen says I can't since I ordered as an option on my order :/ I didn't realize it wasn't a roll-up type until I saw this thread. My own fault...should have paid more attention, but come on aren't most OEM shades the roll-up type? blah

Hi, if you are still looking for a Ford Explorer security shade/cargo cover, I have one and need to sell it. Great condition, we never used it. It's black/dark grey. Please let me know if you're interested, was going to post to craigslist but saw this first.
