Hello--I have a 2002 4.0 v6 Explorer with the factory towing package. I'm interested in purchasing a pop up trailer that is approx 2000# empty. I get the transmission fluid changed every year. Do I really need to upgrade the transmission cooler?

I may use the pop up 2 or 3 times a summer. Please let me know. Thank you!

My explorer does have an auxillary trans cooler. The guy at the transmission shop said that they install larger coolers. I don't know if he's upselling me?

Does 3 camping trips pulling a 2000# pop up warrent a larger transmission cooler? I live in PA near Philly. No Rocky Mountains for me.

Is installing a transmission guage easy to do?

As long as you're towing within the capacity listed in your owners' manual, you should be fine.

The factory transmission temp sensor installed in the transmission feeds its temperature readings into the vehicle's computer. You can see that as well as a bunch of other interesting data in the form of virtual guages. The way to do this is by installing a Scanguage II or if you have a smart phone you can download the Torque app and plug in a bluetooth dongle into the OBD port on the vehicle so you can view it on your phone.

If it has a factory tow package you should be fine towing a pop up trailer I would imagine.
