I have been helping a friend fix the transmission in his 2WD 2007 Explorer 105,000 miles. To help others I thought I would post what was wrong. He lost 2nd and 5th gears. We jumped to conclusions and thought it was the solenoid block, bought a new one. He also ordered the o ringed OD servo. The two new parts were never installed. Anyone want them at half price?

Even though the symptoms of a bad solenoid block and or worn OD servo bore were all there that's not what was wrong. When the pan was dropped to get to the solenoid block the metal in the pan was indicative of something much worse. We dropped the valve body and and it had loads of metal on the separator plate. The OD planetary had chewed itself up. The gear metal in the valve body kept 2nd and 5th from working.
We found a local guy with a great reputation to rebuild the transmission. He had two other Explorers ahead of my friends. He said he does 2-3 Explorer rebuilds a week. The Explorer is back on the road and shifts perfectly after short re-learn period . $1800. :)
As we were picking up the Explorer AAA was delivering another one. Yep transmission rebuild.

Worth a reply, and you had none. Discourages posting, I know. But, I drive a 2004, 150K, and already replaced a solenoid module, TCC not working. I appreciate learning from your post. Thank you! imp

Interested in your 1/2 price offer. Can you pm me price please?

Thanks for the reply. Sometimes a rebuild is needed and trying to do a band aid fix just wastes a lot of time.
