My 98 Sport every now and then would turn over but just not start. Finally it left me stranded 100 mi. from home at 3 am.

Just a thanks to all who posted...I solved the problem myself after 2 months of mechanics couldn't. Here is what I did:

1) Have someone turn the key to the on position while you are listening under the fuel tank. If you hear a buzz, the fuel pump has power and is working. If not, you probably have a bad relay or possibly the pump.

2) Using a spark plug tester, have someone turn over the engine. If the light comes on and stays on while cranking, you are getting spark and just have a bad plug. If no light comes on, or it just flashes, try testing another plug. If the light now comes on, you probably just have a bad plug wire. It is unlikely that more than one plug or wire will be bad, so if the light still doesn't come on, go to step 3.

3) Using a 12v test light, attach the clip to the battery negative. Remove the electric connector from the coil, and probe the positive wire on the connector. Mine has four wires, and the positive is the one on the far right. Turn the key to the on position, and if the light comes on, you are getting current to the coil.

4) Now connect the test light to the battery positive, turn the key to the on position, and probe each of the three negative wires on the coil electrical connector. If the light comes on, your coil is bad. If the light does not come on, it is not getting a signal from the crankshaft position sensor. Replace the sensor.

Hope this helps everybody save some time and $$$.
