I just got a letter from Ford to change the upper and lower bolts on the drivers seat recliner as they are prone to break. Just a warning to others. It does not say what years are affected but mine is a 98. There does not appear to be a reference number but it was issued on 13th October 2003.

I Got a letter from ford also and mine is a 2000

Somebody is goofing on these bolts. Honda had a recall on their Accords for the same reason...

I had mine changed out about a month ago

I already had mine done. I found out about it with Autozone.com I called and asked if everything had been done (GEM was what concerned me) and she said yes except 3 recalls, driver's seat bolt, Cruise Control and timing chain tensioner but there is a date and milage limit on it (think I am still under the gun on that last one) If you will look on there that one poped up on that web site pretty quick (I still haven't got my letter yet).

Rear wiper motors

Those things are problematic. Were they ever recalled. Mine is broken and I don' want to pay for a new one.

i've heard nothing about this my one is a 97 .... ummm do you think then its ok on my one?

If in doubt contact your nearest Ford dealer and get them to check it out for you. You will need to tell them the VIN #.. They can check any other outstanding recalls as well.

My Bolt is gone too! :(

Do they mean the Lever thing??? CUz mine broke :( Do you think Icou;d get them to replace that?

Ford's Recall Site

You actually don't even need to go to your dealer to check if you qualify for the recall. I've broken the seat lever twice in my 97' EB but apparently I'm not covered

This is a common problem with lots of threads and various fix-it solutions... Fix-it

That recall site is ok for US citizens but no good for us European owners. It just says exported vehicle no details available.

Oo sorry Howard I forgot you weren't from the U.S... I'm sure theres something like that for you too, I'll keep my eye open.

Unfortunately Ford in their infinite wisdom do not deem us worthy of such a facility. The only way is to phone the dealer and get them to check it for you.

Yeah I got a recall but I hate the local stealership and they never do anything right or in a timely manner so I will just take my chances until I have lots of time to let the do it

Seat Bolt

I have 1992 Eb explorer and the upper seat bolt broke. Just got in truck to come home from work and barely touched the back and it broke.

Well guys, i'm from Australia and I got a recall letter regarding the seat bolts. Mine is a 1999.

I've got a '97 and went in to Ford last week and nothing came up but my mates got a '98 and got the letter.
I think it's '98 onwards.....
But dont hold me to that, best to get it checked....:)

Took mine in two week ago to be checked.
We will order the parts straight away sir.
STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!
What happens if it breaks while driving.
FORD are you going to pay I THINK NOT!!!!!

Recall applies to '98-'02's:

"A bolt that attaches the seat recliner mechanism to the driver seat back frame on your vehicle may fracture."

Safety recall 03S04.

There is also a recent recall on (came out at the same time as this one) for improperly releasing cruise control cables which stick the accelerator.

The bolt that broke on my seat was the upper 1, about 1/3 the way up the seat.

I have also heard about the Cruise Control problem too
