Alright, finially got the damn thing aligned this morning. I was wondering if you could tell me exactly how bad this alignment was. I know it was bad, but I wanna know how bad...

Thanks

oh yea... whats up w/ Ford Explorer VAN????

The toe being that far off was probably really ruining your tires. The 2° out of camber specs on the right front was bad. You recently lowered it or something? Your ball joints okay?

The van thing is just a category for the alignment computer's software. The 'truck and rear wheel drive van' category.

Just lowered it...

This is something I posted in a local car club forum pertaining to my alignment.

I would just like to tell people not to goto the Ford dealer in Christiansburg... I brought my truck in to get aligned and camber adjusters installed 2 weeks ago... brought it in at 10am on a monday morning. They were busy that day... I'd have to leave it overnight... no biggie, I dont even use my car during the week.

Next day... I call 'em up - still not done.. it will be done by 10am on wed. morning. Now, I was leaving wed night to goto USC and I needed to have my ride. I had class all day so I couldn't come get my truck anytime after 10:30am or before 8pm (by which time they are closed).

Wed morning I go in at 9:15. I tell the guy it has to be done by 10:20 at the latest. It had been up on the rack they said, but then they had taken it down for some odd reason... Anyways, I go back in at 10, and tell them they have 20 minutes to finish. They look at each other, then walk me to the lift where it is getting aligned, ask the guy if it can be done in 20. He says no.. I tell them to take it off the rack and I drive away. This also ment I had to drive ~800 miles with my horrible alignment before I could even think about trying to get it aligned again.

So... for an ALIGNMENT and camber adjusters, I left it there exactly 48 hours and it still wasn't done. I could understand it taking them that long if they ran into problems... but it took them 47 hours just to START doing my work.

I post this now, because I got to take a good look at my tires while in Dave's shop today installing my adjusters. For 2 month old tires, the inside half of the front ones look like 2yr old tires. 50%+ of the tread is gone. I'm PISSED!!!!!

I brought it to a different shop this time.

I talked to the guy who aligned it today... he said he maxed out the camber adjusters but there is still a little bit of neg cam... ugh. I think I'm going to rotate my tires soon.

you need to do something to get a little more + camber out of it if you want to keep from wearing your tires, anywhere from 0 to -.75 would be much better but 0 would be great!

what can I do get more camber? he said they maxed out the adjusters

well it depends on what you did to drop it if you used a kit I would call the manufacturer and see what kind of info they have, I am not real sure on lowered vehicles, if you just did a torsion twist you may have to by some bracketry for the front, I could be wrong, like is said I am not used to drops, more stock and lifted stuff, try some of the guys in the sport truck side of the board they might be able to help you some more, good luck!

I think it ended up being like ~2in upfront. Yea, I have a camber adjuster kit on, but like I said - he maxed that out. Oh, and to drop it I just did a TT.

I had mine at -1.8 camber for a year and it ate up my inside tires. It is now at -1.3 with 2.25 inch drop. Like yours it is maxed out. The only way to get it closer to 0 camber is to raise the truck back up.
Here is my thread on it.

Yeah, the alignment was way off. If they maxed out the adjusters, which it looks like they did, the best thing to do would be to raise it up just a little to bring it back into spec.

The only thing about raising it back up, is I dont know how much I'd have to, to bring it back into spec. i dont wanna pay them $50 just to check the alignment.

Also.. if anything I wanted to go .5" lower. Also, I'll be dropping the rear about 1" more so that might mess w/ the alignment too... ARG, I wish I could just keep tweaking the susp. and get the alignment checked for free. :banghead:

If the adjusters are maxed out, then you're pretty much out of options. You get experimental and lengthen the adjuster slot, and get bigger cams , possible from another vehicle, but that's messing with the anchoring point of the upper control arm, which is dangerous.

Dropping the rear will not affect the allignment up front. Depending on the looks you are looking for you just need to drop or raise the rear to match the front.
