My Explorer had the Futura Adventurer tires on it when I bought it. The tires look pretty new, although I had to replace one last week (got another Futura to match) 'cos it had a nail in it..

They are the standard size, I think they are 255/70R16.

Does anyone know how these tires perform offroad?

Tigger,
It has been my experience that these tire are both poor performers both on road and off, they are weak, and have poor traction, especially in rain, snow, and dirt. (Here in Maine, I see a lot of it all.) Sell these tires for $150 for the set and buy a set of Pirelli Scorpian AT's, which are wonderful tires, or BF Goodrich all terrain, T/A's. I've owned both and I suggest the Scorpians, but I have no complaints about the performance of the BF Goodrich's either. Hope this helps.

Dube,

Thanks for the info. Over here in the East Bay we haven't even seen much rain yet, I'm not sure if I'll ever see any snow (unless I go back to England for xmas), and I haven't been offroad yet....
Looks like I'll need a new set then, before January....

I have those tires on my Sport as well, same size etc.

I took the truck to the Everglades Levy the first day I got her and they climbed right up that incline/hill/levy and did surprisingly well. But, for the record, I think the truck did very well and the tires had nothing to do with it. I think they are pretty awful souding on the road, althought they claim to be Highway Tread?!?

First, chancfe, they are gone ... but I have had no problems with them to really complain about and wet weather driving has been safe and no hydroplaning at all -- they ain't that bad

But man do they sound awful!!!

Hey Tigger,
You mean you never go to Tahoe? There will be plenty of snow to try your treads out there.
Hey I'm going to Hollister Hills Saturday. Do you want to come out and play? I'm not going to do anything extreme since I haven't really had a chance to check out my truck yet. Just do some easy stuff to check it out.

Ray,
I would love to come out and play but unfortunately I've got packing to do as I'm going back to England on Sunday. I will be back on November 6 (minus the family) and will have the weekends free then to go out on trips.
I only got the truck in June and haven't done much with it yet partly due to family and partly because I've spent all my money paying it off.
I would like to go somewhere to see how it performs before committing to Truckhaven in January. Bear in mind it is totally stock at the moment. I did intend to go to one of the courses run by Offroadexperience but didn't make it before the end of their season.

Tigger,
Hollister Hills would be a perfect place to take your stock machine and learn what it will do. You will be supprised at what a stock truck will do. Just give a holler when you get back into town and we'll get some people together and play for the day. Have a safe trip. Dead Link Removed

Ray,

Thanks. Using the latest technology in personal schedule reminders, I have left myself a note to get in touch on my return (a post-it note stuck on my monitor)...
