ok i've waited a long time and now i think i want something just throw the bass a little

and i was looking in the JC Whitney mag to get an idea on some boxes and such

and what caught my eye was the Self-powered subs,

One was by Pyle, it is a 200-watt Amp Tube Subwoofer

and the other one i saw, doesn't look to have any specific brand name, it is also a 200-watt self-powered sub with a round top and flat sides along with a flat-bottom

both Woofers are only 8 inch subs

otherwise i was looking at MB Acoustics Amps, ever heard of these?

what caught my eye was the 2-channel 600 watt amp, and then i would hook that into 2 Pyramid Mind Blower Subwoofer Tubes, preferably with 10 inch subs
what do you think?

any suggestions on other equipment, or could you steer me to some good sites?

My opinion is that if you go with an 8", go with Boston Acoustics; if not don't bother.

I've had a 10" Bazooka Tube for about 3 yrs now with no problems. It compliments the stock radio very well and is easy to install. Of course it's not going to blast up out of the truck, but it will give you a nice back massage...lol.

All those subs are pieces of ****... don't get em'.

Stay away from Pyle, American Legacy, Sony, Pyramid, Profile, Volfenhag, Audiobahn, Mobile Authority, Thump... they are all garbage flea market crap.

You should also stay away from Kenwood, Lighting Audio.

If you want a sick sick sub right now then hook this sucker up. I have too many subs on my hands at the moment so I don't need any more until next season when I'm getting two 15" Brahma Mk2s and another Crossfire BMF1000d. But I would jump of this opportunity if I need some subs.

It's an unbranded Kove Audio Armageddon. I run a 15" Armageddon at the moment and it is incredibly tight and the power is incredible.

well there certainly not top of the line but i was under the impression he didnt want to spend alot. so i threw them out there. ;)

i bought 2 10" subs for $14 canadian, then i got the rest of the stuff for free from friends and stuff. Its home sterio stuff, but it still works really well.

Whoa. Easy there. Audiobahn does not suck. Yes, if you get the bottom end stuff it doesn't sound like RE or JL, but if you spend $350 for an amp and $300 for subs, it sounds downright good.

He doesnt need W7s or freakin ea12s or anything, just a little lower extension.

Avoid: Truely avoid Pyramid, Pyle, Legacy at any cost... they are most definettly crap that is NOT worth speding any amount of money on.

Audiobahn is ok stuff, and kenwood isn't half bad ethier.... but if you want a real company try alpine ;)!

You can get a single 12" or 10" from a reputable company and a Qlogic box for a reasonable price and it will definetly sound better than any 'tube' design out on the market.

If you want a real company try:

Adire Audio, Resonant Engineering, Elemental Designs, Beyond Audio
All those give you the best value for the dollar.

JL Audio... nice **** but really expensive... a Shiva is $100US and it is about 2/3 the cost of a W3 and it will best it. The W7 is a nice sub but it's not the best sub... the Brahma and x.. have a flatter BL that the W7. People will say that the W7 is the best because they payed like $500+ for it.

Kove Audio makes good **** but a little on the expensive side.

Alpine - amps are cool but they are not reliable. The Type E is garbage. Type S is ok... Type R is probably their best product out but once again you can get a Shiva or EdK and it will best the Type R.

Audiobahn overrates their power handling and sensitivity on their subs. Their subs are a joke with the flame baskets and chrome and a 2" PHAT surround... LOL! You got a 2" PHAT surround and what you get like 12mm of LINEAR EXCURSION... that is gay.

RF amps are gay... they run so hot. Their subs aren't anything to brag about. They are nothing how they used to be five years ago.

BTW back to the topic... about your budget...
Just grab a couple fo RE8s (there is a sale on them right now for about $35 a piece right now. They got 10mm of linear x-max and have 100W RMS so you don't need a lot of amp power. They drop really low in a ported box. Just get two of those and build your own box (which shouldn't cost more that $20 if you have your own tools).

Umm excuse me, I'm EXTREMELY happy with my Type E's..... Theres definetly more bass there than I need. They aren't he most accurate by far by the do produce some quality bass despite how you feel about them. And my amp ahs had no issues at all despite being mounted on my enclosure.

You may say they are garbage but you also say avoid audiobahn as much as possible.

97sportrac is just mad cause he can't get his stereo to sound good. Audiobahn makes some decent stuff. Kenwood makes some AWESOME products. I have a kvt-911dvd and if he says thats a peice of crap, he should be shot in the face. Alpine makes some awesome stuff too. Wether you say it sucks or not may come from a competitors standpoint where you think anything less than a brahma sucks. If it makes them happy, let it be. Dont dis everything because it didn't make you happy. Atleast explain why.. Do you even have any experience with these companies? Maybe you do.. I'm just asking...

Just go get a DD 9515 and a Concept Amp and call it a day...then go to a show with an explorer that has just clears and billet grille on the exterior and make people wonder why it is there.....(the best is when you turn it on when they are lookin around it and their eyes just shoot out)

Hotctyplaya you wouldn't have any experience with that before would you? :D

Let's try that again lol...

No I would not have any expreience.....who would bring THAT to a car show...especially after someone tells them "Everyone will laugh at you"

funny how none of you seem to know anything, i'm not gonna go back and quote all the stupid things that were said 'cause i don't have time but i'm linking this thread to a couple of the audio forums just for laughs.

If you buy some cheap subs and power them appropriately in a nice box they will sound way better than you'd expect. I'd stay away from the tubes though and build your own box. an owner built box no matter how much of a beginner they are is gonna be better than one of those tubes or a cheap non-sub specific box.

Which audio forums so I know which name to go on so I can enjoy laughing also....

Well I guess we are idiots compared to expo aren't we ?...:mattmoon:
