nope, gas mileage is bad enough with them unlocked

we leave out plow truck with locked hub's allyear around..just dis-engage the t-case when we don't need 4x4

Hey!!!! Won't let me Vote!!!!

Says I am trying to edit a post or something, and I have to have admin rights!!!

I got the same message when I tried to vote. Wonder why?

I lock them only when I plan to run it in 4wd which has been quite often lately due to the Wisconsin weather. I feel it is too hard on the system and I need it to last. Gas mileage is another factor.

BTW: I also could not vote. Same message as above.

I leave mine locked in snow and ice even if not in 4wheel drive, just in case. Other wise there unlocked, cuts down wear and tear and better mileage.;)

won't let me vote.
I have had them locked for about three weeks now. the weather's been so bad that you never know when you will need 4X4.

I think the reason no one can vote is because it may have to be in the "poll" forum to vote on!
I also have the crappy auto hubs but that will change as soon as it gets warmer out! Especially now that I see that a lot of guys keep their hubs locked for a while. I was reluctant thinking that I would have to get out and keep changing the hubs back and forth! I had a OLD Jeep Wrangler 4x4, a ford truck 4x4 and a Dodge 4x4! I only used the Jeep for plowing and 4 WD and I forgot if I even had to change the hups or if I just left them on. The Dodge & Ford were just used as work trucks. I don't even think I put them in 4x4.
I'm sure a mod will come along and put this in the proper forum.

I have a newer Explorer so I just hit the button when I need 4wd. I have used 4wd on paved snow covered roads a bunch of times now, just turn it off when the road clears.

I move this into the correct forum. Now try to vote... If it still doesn't work you will need to restart the thread in this forum from scratch.

I voted and I keep mine locked in throughout the winter. with snow and ice you never know when you will need to engage the 4 wheel drive.

once a week

I will lock mine in atleast once a week to keep the seals from sticking to the shafts.Manual hubs was one of the best and easiest mods you can do.I havent broke these hubs but the autos i broke at least 3-4 times.

thanks Rick....my first poll.

Thanks Rick!!!

I keep mime locked in winter conditions. I will also keep mine licked for the week I go to the Outer Banks, NC. You never know when you will have to make a quick turn and do some wheeling.

I think it is better to lock them occasionaly to keep everything lubricated.

The meatwagon turns 14 this year, I have never had a a manual hub problem.

I do a lot of highway driving, and to keep them locked all winter would kill my gas mileage. If I'm driving around locally and the roads have snow on them or it is snowing or going to snow, I will keep them locked. But I always make sure to unlock them before getting on the highway unless the roads are bad.
