04 explorer won't blow heat

My wifes 04 explorer won't blow heat. First some background on this problem. This started about a year ago or so. When the fan is on hot or cold whenever you went to change the temp setting there would be a clicking noise under the dash (I think) then you would hear a small "thump" noise and the heat would start working. Now the thing just sits and clicks but no "thump" and no heat. I know it is not the heater core or anything like that (I assume anyway). I was told by someone or read it here somewhere that there is a "door or flap" that will close when the temp is turned up and I assume it is not closing. If you have had this problem please share with me what you did to correct it. Many thanks because my wife was not happy this morning when she was getting ready to leave for work.

Back at ya Michiganian! What is "Blend Door"?

its a door in the A/C system that moves to allow more heat or more cool air.

Does your have ETAC or Dual controls? they add a few more.
