- 1994 ford ranger
I have a 1994 ford ranger 2wd with a 4.0 V6 federal emissions and push rods. I am installing an engine from a 1996 ford explorer into the 1994 ranger. I was told that I would have to switch the intake and exhaust manifolds and the wiring harness. The block, heads, intake base are identical. The 1996 engine has a camshaft position synchronizer and the 1994 engine has what looks like some type of cam drive to turn the oil pump.
My question is in regard to the timing. How does the 1994 engine know about TDC? My thinking is there has to be a sensor to tell the coil packs, etc. when to fire.
