I have a 1996 5.0L V-8 that wore out the lower steering shaft that connects to the rack and pinion. It turns out, Ford does not produce this part any longer. A friend was a long-time Ford mechanic at our local dealer. He found a 1996 4.0L V-6 at our local salvage yard, and found that the shaft bolted right in to my V-8. To my knowledge, these are the same parts, but have different Ford part numbers for the V-6 and V-8.
