I've lurked here a number of times while figuring out how to do a job on my explorer, and it's always helped. Now I find myself needing to get specific help for a job I'm doing.

So I've had a p0171 OBD code, and after some diagnosis I've realized that I need to change my intake manifold gaskets. I'm going to change both upper and lower intake gaskets, and I'm going to change the valve cover gaskets (I figured why not). I'm wondering does the actual intake manifold come apart? After looking around, it seems to me that it should be able to be pulled apart into 2 pieces, but I'm having a very difficult time trying to do so.

Btw, my car is a 1997 ford explorer v6 4.0L efi

i got the same code on my 96 4.0 and it was that green vacuum line going into the erg canister, had a crack in it

Yes, it does come apart in 2 parts. What motor do you have SOHC or OHV? There should be something like 8 t30 torx head bolts you have to remove.
