2004 Mountaineer T-Case Swap ???'s

Hey guys,
I did a search and checked FAQ's with no luck. I am looking into a 2004 Mountaineer, but wanted to know if I can swap out the AWD case for a manual t-case? I read about someone doing this to a 2000, are the trannys anywhere near the same for those years? I plan on four wheeling moderately and really want 4lo. Any help is appreciated.

Well there is no manual t-cases offered on '02 and up. All transfer cases with low gear are electronically controlled. So to swap to a 4x4 from AWD you would have to swap over all the associated electronics: motor, wiring, 4x4 computer, etc.

Thanks. I should have done further homework first as I didn't realize this was IRS. Looks like I will be doing something from 95-2000 instead.
