I don't think so. The mustang ones are 27 or 28 spline I think and the explorer ones are 31 spline

The "same", no. But, if the difference is only axle diameter (28 or 31 spline), a sharp guy could change out the differential side gears with the correct ones. The housings and various other internal parts are the same.

Now, bear in mind that early Explorers had solid rear axles, but later had independent rears, which meant the diff. carrier center section had NO axle tubes welded to it.........imp
