4x4 Switch Test?

I was wondering if anybody knows how to test the 4x4 switch on the dash on a 1991 explorer sport? I've done the test with shift module, the red led flashes four times then goes off (thanks DeRocha), but when I push the 4x4 button nothing happens. The module does not make any noise (clicks), amber light does not come on, and the fuses are good. Still no 4x4 engagement. Anybody with any info it would greatly be appreciated.

I just tried with a 4X4 switch I have but can't figure out how to test it, I've got a light type thing.

4x4 Switch Test

I'm thinking there is no way to test it. I guess I'll end up getting one off of eBay. I don't have any pictures yet, but I'll post them as soon as I get a chance.
