Gday guys, asking a question for a fellow X owner over hear.

Ford has told him his gear box is broken (turbine speed sensor) I believe, as normal they want a stupid price to fix the problem.

Can anybody shed any light on what is exactly involved to replace this item?

Cheers.

That sensor is located on the center support. You need to remove the trans, and tear it down to the center support, replace the sensor on the support, reinstall, and reassemble the tranny. It is a pretty involved job unfortunately.

The transmission shops always recommend a rebuild when they have to remove a transmission to replace a part. They already have it open, and there is a possibility that something else could be bad in addition to the original problem. How much did they quote (in US dollars)?

Thanks i will parse that on, anybody know what a new 5R55E is worth depending on the cost to fix this one, it may wall be cheaper to bring one in from the U.S.

Cheers.
