I currently have a 94 XLT 4-Door 4X4 w/ 135,000 (automatic trans.). Starting this past summer, my Explorer didn't not want to shift into overdrive. The usual shift comes @ around 50-55 mph and a noticable decline in RPMs occurs. Oh, the check engine light comes on after continuous acceleration past that point, for example, while I am trying to pass a car or going over a steep hill on the highway. I finally got a chance to take it to a local mechanic, and he changed the trans. fluid and filter. He also replaced the 3rd and 4th soleonoids (sp?). When I drove it home, after getting it fixed, it still would not shift into overdrive. I unhooked the battery from the Explorer in order try to let the computer reset. This worked for the about 3 days. No problems at all, and I thought it was fixed. However, the other day, the Explorer didn't shift again, and all the old problems have come back. I love this truck, and this is about the only problem I have had with it. Could anyone enlighten me to what this problem could be? Thank you.
