I would really appreciate your help.
I just bought a 1998 Ford Ranger with 148000m, L4 engine, 2wd, XLT, super cab. And about 50 miles later the "check engine" light came on.
I would like to know how to get the code is it like Chevrolet put a paper clip in A & B socket. and how do you (I) clear the codes and the check engine light. thank you

'98 Rangers are OBD-II. The EEC-V computer stores DTCs or Diagnostic Trouble Codes. See this thread for more information on those: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147880

The best way to go about this is to either purchase a code reader or get the codes read (by AutoZone or a shop) and then bring the codes back here and we will help you figure the problem out. It's hard to diagnosis a problem without a DTC. To retrieve codes you will have to scan. To learn more about scanners go here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147643

Hopefully that'll help you out. You can get rid of the code also by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and then reconnecting it. Welcome to the site

Just a note: please do not double post. I went ahead and deleted your other post. Please refrain from that. Thank you.
