I just inherited my dad's 2000 explorer xlt. He has had a problem with the check engine light for years. We tightened the gas cap, replaced the tube? from the gas cap to the tank and we have also gave it a tune up. Dad didnt drive the car much. Just around town. Now it is time to have it inspected and it won't pass because of the check engine light. (In the past they were able to turn off the light to pass the car but now it wont go off).
The mechanic says it is running lean and there is a slight leak in the manifold that might be causing the check engine light to stay on.
Does this sound right to you?
