2002 4.0. From exhaust to EGR Valve is a tube with two rubber hose going to EGR Valve Sensor. The heat from the tube is melting EGR Valve Sensor. What may cause this. Thank you:salute::usa:

It's called a DPFE sensor or something like that. I had the same thing happen. The best I could figure was the hose slipped off and the hot exhaust gas now didn't have anything to stop the flow so it melted the plastic. In other words the DPFE sensor controls the exhaust flow and when a hose pops off it can't do that anymore. There is nothing but hot exhaust concentrated on a pc of plastic.

I replaced mine and it hasn't melted but I also made sure the hose won't come off by using hose clamps. The old hoses will be a little "formed" if you will and may slip back off so either replace or use a hose clamp.
