I've got a 2000 explorer sport V6 4WD. I don't drive it very far, <20 mi/week. Lately it has been making a noise while driving at low speeds. It will randomly have a medium pitched "squeal" and a slight vibration that will las about 5 seconds or so. It's been doing this probably once a week for the past couple of months. It did it again yesterday, but it lasted longer (10 sec or so) and the engine stalled. I pulled over and restarted the engine with no problems and drove home.

I've searched for this problem and nothing really matches it regarding the TC. It doesn't happen all the time, it drives fine on the highway, and the vibration is short lived. It does take a couple of seconds to shift into reverse and sometimes it revs shifting between 2-3 then grabs. Then again, not all the time. When I checked the ATF the levels looked good but it was a bit foamy.

Any ideas?
