Explorer V.S Pacifica, Pole, and Muddy Ditch

I almost destroyed my explorer last friday. I was just getting off the freeway and i came to this red light. right after the light i had about maybe 20 car lengths before my lane would end. So i started off a litttle faster than the car next to me not even flooring it then the car next to me speeds up. So then i floor and since i have a v8 i pass up the pacifica next to me pretty goood. Then i settle at 45 and im getting over into the soon to be only lane since its merging. well... i had forgotten about him and i was fooling with the radio. I guess the car behind me never slowed down because out of nowehere he comes beside me and starts trying to push me onto the shoulder to make me get behind him. Since my eyes were off the road the only reason i noticed him was because his car tapped my mirror... ((which now needs replacing.))) So to avoid an accident i slammed on the brakes and steered onto the shoulder, since it was really wet outside the truck started to slide and the rear end swung around on the side to the left. i kept skidding on the gravel and then the front end caught traction and pulled it forward and it slid into the ditch just missing a telephone pole on the drivers side and a sign. Even in the ditch i was still sliding for maybe 10 or 15 feet. It took about 25 minutes to get out of the ditch with the 4 wheel low since the mud was so slick. I think i probably damaged that because after about 15 mins of using 4 wheel low it started bucking and smoking when i stepped on the gas. I had no traction whatsoever with the mud ruts and everything. Not sure if the all season tires were to blame or if it was just crappy 4x4. But im glad its not wrecked since ive only had it for about a month now.

Well, at least you made it alright and the thing didn't roll or something. There is a road near my house that has a bus lane that ends shortly after the intersection, and sooo many people try to skip the line at the lights by using that bus lane and racing the person beside them. I mean, when some punk kid is doing it in his little honda or sunfire, yeah, I'll prove to him that an explorer really can move off the line and usually beat them. However, I have never, and I mean NEVER tried to force them off the road. If they refuse to back down, I'll let them in because it just isn't worth an accident over something like that.

4 Low on a V8?

Is this an option on the third gens?

Yes its an option.

Glad to hear you came out unmarked. Mirrors are easy to replace!

Wow, thats pretty messed up, glad to hear your allright.
I dont know what I would do in that situation, but hopefully I would get stuck also, once some dickhole damages one of my trucks doing something retarded like that, and trys to run, all bets are off. Not to say thats what should be done, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere.

I had some jerk in a Dodge Ram run me of the road once when I still had my escort. I got his plate and reported it to the police. If your going to have custome plate don't be an jerk. Glad to here you are alright.

Coming from a person who has been run off the road by big trucks on more than occassion, sounds like you were both at fault. People are idiot drivers. They don't pay attention. The last time we nearly got ran off the road was going down the interstate, in the left lane, and a guy in a F250 type truck with a horse trailer decided that the middle lane wasn't good enough, he had to get in the passing lane. No one was in front of him for a good half mile. Anyway, he comes over and pushes us into the shoulder and nearly the concrete barrier because he wasn't paying attention. He could've really hurt my family, (SVO was driving and my son was in the backseat) and I don't go for that. Luckily, Jeff was paying attention and slammed on the brakes to keep us from becoming pancakes. The car could've been replaced, lives can't. You can't assume that the other drivers will do the right thing, or what you think they should do. You should have been paying attention to your surroundings, not the radio. I know it's hard, but being a responsible driver is more important than the radio. ;)
