My 2001 Ranger seems to think the door is open when it is not, resulting in the "door ajar" dash light being on, as well as the interior cab light (most annoying!). It doesn't do it all the time but has been happening with greater frequency lately. I thought it would be easy enough to trace the problem, but when I went to check out the door switch I discovered that there aren't any, at least there isn't the old 'refrigerator door' type of depression switch that I was expecting to find. Does anybody know how the sensor that indicates the door is open works, or even where it is? I'm guessing it might be a magnetic switch inside the door panel, or maybe some type of contact switch in the door latch mechanism. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You need to replace the GEM module which is located in the dash.
