HELP - Headlight Bulb Replacement

I finally got some time to try to replace the stock headlight bulbs with the new PIAA 9007's I received a couple of weeks ago and cannot figure out how to get the old ones out. The wiring connections come off fairly easily but, getting the black plastic ring holding the bulb in to budge is my problem. I have tried turning it both clockwise and counterclockwise to no avail. Is there something special I need to do to get it off?

I have a 97 and I'll assume they are the same. For the driver's side I had to take the battery out in order to get my hand around the ring. It is snug but should come off fairly easily. It turns counterclockwise. The trick is, you need to get a good grip on it. Just shove your hand down there and you'll get it.

Well, I finally got my PIAA's installed this weekend with the help of a friend and a large channelock pliers. The black ring was very snug. The PIAA's are great. Whiter light and definitely better vision. I think they will really shine through on those dark, rainy nights when the road seems to absorb normal lighting.

9007 is the model number for the headlights on your 96... 91-94 is 9004. 95-current is 9007.
