HELP! my ex won't shift into reverse!!

let's see..my truck will not go into reverse..it will shift there, but will act like it is in neutral..it a 93' auto 4x4..it has always had a hard time shifting back and forth (ala the infamous KLUNCK!), but it has never failed to shift there..could i have broken something in the actual shifting mechanism, or could this be more transmission related..any help much appriciated, as i'm afraid to take it anywhere, out of fear of getting stuck or something...thankz all..

ok..wierdness..i tried it again, after shifting back and forth thru all the gears a few times, and now it will shift into reverse..woo hoo!..or is this only the start of something much worse?...DA DA DA DOMMM!!!!!..hmmm..
