keyless entry remotes

Which keyless entry remotes are compatible? I know that I've seen two different types. Are the smaller (newer) ones compatible with the earlier 2nd gen explorers?

Try here, at the bottom of the TSB it talks about some transmitters and their interchangeability, don't know if they one you are talking about is the ones mentioned - it goes upto 98'

Bottom line is that for 97 back (maybe 98 back) if it doesn thave WORDS on it it wont work.
