I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 and I was thinking about swapping the 4.0L V6 to a 5.0L V8. Will my original transmission fit of will that have to be changed out as well?

No. You will need a 4r70w, along with a host of other goodies. (Exhaust manifolds, computers, wiring harnesses, PATS stuff, transfer case if keeping 4wd. 2wd parts to swap in if not.

The easiest way is to get a complete donor, unless you have access to a solid pick and pull, and have another vehicle to daily.

Its a big project, but definitely do-able if you have some mechanical ability, and some time to get it all worked out. It’s been done here several times, and we’ve got plenty of knowledge here to get you set straight.
