My X won't shift out of 4 lo

Hello everyone,
My '99 X won't shift out of 4 lo unless you unhook the battery.
It will shift in & out of 4 hi though.
I checked fuses and they're ok. Would the BOO switch do this or would that make the brake lights not work also?
I'm at wits end!!!!

If it was the BOO switch, it wouldn't shift INTO 4 low to begin with. It doesn't use the shift motor to go between 4auto and 4 high, just when going between high and low range. Odds are the motor is bad, and you'll want to check out the sticky at the top of the transfer case forum for info about cleaning the contacts.
