no reverse

Help please
Are there any transmission guys / ladies on here ???????????????
I have a 94 limited explorer . The Ex has been not wanting to shift
when cold . But a few feet down the road it shifts and is fine till it cold again .
Never a real problem with it . I drove it 30+ miles tonight and "pow" no
reverse . Checked the fluid and it was a little low . Put 1/2 qt in it .
Nothing . it does fine in drive . It does hesitate a little . Honest answer here people . Is the Tranny shot .

Not really a transmission guy, but a few questions that may help such peoples. Do you know the last time the fluid and filter were changed? What does the fluid look like on the stick? Color, contamination, that sort of thing.

I changed the filter and fluid about a year ago . It wasnt burnt ,
nor smelled bad . When I check the fluid on the stick now ,It dont
show on the stick like the oil does .It just looks wet . I dont want
to keep filling it and over fill it . I really need help on this .
I know how the trany shops will tell you the sad story .
It was fine when I left home . Backed up real nice Now I have No reverse
Is there a vacuum hose . I have not climbed under it yet to look .
